Such a useful tree. Heard it called a palm tree and heard it called an herb. Pretty much the whole tree can be used. The obvious is the fruit. Then there is the palm bud, which is edible and medicinal. Even the florets in the bud are edible. I don’t care for the taste raw. Then you have the heart of palm. I planted my first banana tree yesterday. It produced fruit last year but ended up in an awkward part of my neighbors yard as times changed. I gather an always outside banana doesn't usually fruit in North Texas but let's hope. He gave it to me so hopefully it will fruit. I planted it with in 50' of his in case some pollination magic is required.
