Sounds like a One Nation voter.... Pauline, the former fish 'n' chip witch from Ipswich, does just the best parodies of herself. (Pauline is the leader of the One Australia Party.
Years ago from my studies, I recall an entry by Jefferson pertaining to Congress, in 1786, establishing the money unit at 375.64 troy grains of pure silver. For quite a few years this was discussed, as the weights and measures truly would impact the economy. I bring this up because at one point it was mentioned that if they couldn't come to an agreement, property values would be too high. Oh, if they only knew what could happen with fractional reserve banking and a complete monopoly on the monetary supply by placing it all in private hands.
Are troy grains different from regular grains for powder and bullets? Edit, yep. There must be. The math doesn't work for regular grains of weight if Jefferson was shooting for what we call a troy ounce. 7000 normal grains in a pound, 20 troy oz in a pound, right?
A troy ounce is a system of weights used for precious metals and gems, based on a pound of 12 ounces as opposed to the traditional 16. A troy ounce is a system of weights used for precious metals and gems, based on a pound of 12 ounces as opposed to the traditional 16. A troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams or 0.0311034768 kilograms. As the difference between the regular ounce and the troy ounce is approximately 10%, a troy ounce would correspond to 1.097 regular ounces. To be more exact, a unit of troy ounce weighs 31.1 grams while the unit of a regular ounce weighs 28.35 grams. grain, unit of weight equal to 0.065 gram, or 1/7,000 pound avoirdupois. The troy pound (lb t) consists of twelve troy ounces and thus is 5760 grains (373.24172 grams). An avoirdupois pound is approximately 21.53% heavier at 7000 grains (453.59237 grams), and consists of sixteen avoirdupois ounces.
Troy,Stone, bloek, and many others are from early imperial systems in the 15-1700s When I was a kid we had Jersey/ british pounds system in Jersey (cow area) with stone etc. Then Imperial / to Metric (system international ) from France . Dang !! And You USA folks are USA system on some things as of volume. It,s all good , but to convert some is a pain. Sloth
Australia is like most other countries, in that there are those who struggle financially and those who do well. Same opportunities, just different choices. For example, my daughter went into the army at 18, worked hard, deployed for 8 months and used her deployment pay (at the time $10k per month tax free) as a deposit on a house. A couple of years later she left army and used her hard earned skill set to earn a good salary with the Israelis, then the English, and now the Americans. She worked hard, in sometimes uncomfortable or very dangerous conditions, lived frugally and spent her money wisely. She is 34 now and owns 2 houses. I don’t feel sorry for those who aren’t prepared to do the hard yards and make the smart choices.
Thanks for the clarification. I was too tired from farm laboring and more than a little into a glass of rum when I was doing the math.
They're pretty screwed. They think redoing the nations power grid for a cost of several billion dollars to make use of wind and solar is cheaper than nuclear. By the time it's done everyone already knows it will come in at 2 or 3 times over the original set budget.
A huge percentage of homes here have solar panels feeding the grid. So many in fact that the grubbyment is talking about charging homeowners for the free power they supply to the grid, because the power lines can’t handle the load. If those homeowners grew a brain they would buy a battery, disconnect from the grid, and tell the power companies and their grubbyment lackeys to go fork themselves.
…… pretty much this. And just at that moment we have 4 houses (down from 5) but are going through a separation so at the end I will come out with 2. Horrible landlord I am.
