Listening to audiobook short stories while doing gardening or household chores is a good way of passing time that would otherwise be tedious.

YouTube is a good source of audio book stories. The Borrow Box App is another good source of audio books on a wide range of subjects and genres.

'The Boy at Mugby', by Charles Dickens.

Brings me back to my childhood in the mid 50's when my mother and grandfather would take me and my sister on an annual pilgrimage by steam train to Newastle to visit kinsfolk there. There would be food and confectionery vendors selling their wares through open train windows, whilst the train was stationary at Broadmeadow railwaystation.

    'The Guest' by Albert Camus.

The short story was adapted to a motion picture film, 'Far From Men' starring Viggo Mortenson...

Some of the musical score from the film sound track of 'Far From Men'; it and the visuals give some notion of the setting within which Camus' short story is set.

'A Rose for Emily'. A short story by William Faulkner.

A literary discussion of a Rose for Emily

Miss Emily reminds me somewhat of Great Expectations' Miss Havisham, only that Miss Havisham's suitor avoided the fate of Homer Baron.
