According to the law as written, AR's do not even come close to meeting the LEGAL definition of a firearm, as the lowers do not have a breech block nor is threaded to receive a barrel. The uppers do not contain a hammer, as the law as written by congress defines what constitutes a firearm.
Getting better, the ATF and the attorney general has been aware of this and submitted a letter to congress to try and correct the law to accommodate the AR 's unique design.

If it's not a firearm then it can not be an SBR nor an automatic rifle. I am sure that congress will jump on correcting that discrepancy.
Seeing as they want to do away with all firearms and are crafting legislation to that will effectively do just that.

The Grabbers (Congress) will just declare AR’s a new Class of Weapon, and outlaw personal possession of this new class... Turn all of us into Felons with a stroke of the President’s Pen... Then sit back and watch the 2nd Civil War break out...

Remember, the Second refers to arms and not just firearms. The Second covers everything from clubs, knives, swords, pikes, etc., up to any personal arm including any class of firearm.

    From 18 USC 921:

    (3)
The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm.

AS BTPost stated with a stroke of the pen a hand full of politicians can outlaw something we legally bought (not from the government) and make us criminals is outrageous. Think about it if they can do it with this they can do it with anything in their pea brains they deem dangerous. With this climate nonsense they could outlaw heating your house with wood --dangerous for the planet, production of meat-- dangerous for the planet (methane gas) Bill Gates is advocating eating synthetic meat. Sound ridiculous --not really-- Freedom lost is only a pen stroke away,

This is what Bill Gates wants us to eat ------YUCK

"The startup Mosa grows meat in laboratory settings after harvesting a “peppercorn size” amount of cells from regular livestock cows who are then returned, almost unscathed, to their fields. The cells are cultured and grown into muscle and fat tissues. “Fibres from one sample grow to 800 million strands of tissue,” says Mosa, which is led by lab meat pioneer Dr. Mark Post, who developed the first ever lab meat hamburger in 2013.

Meanwhile, Memphis Meats, which Gates namechecked in the Technology Review interview, wants to avoid animals altogether whenever possible—including by harvesting cells from procedures like animal biopsies, where cells would be discarded. Memphis Meats makes ground beef, as well as lab-grown chicken and duck. So far, neither Memphis Meats nor Mosa is on any menus, with the economically depressed restaurant scene of 2020 putting a serious damper on development. Mosa believes it will have a menu-ready product by 2022."

Personally I'll stick to the old fashion way ----real livestock real meat

madmax Far right. Bipolar. Veteran. Don't push me.

So AR's aren't firearms. Doesn't matter. They don't know semiauto's from full auto's. They'll make us all felons.

And then the liberals will decry the loss of billions, maybe trillions, of animals that formerly provided mankind with food. They will be shocked to drive into the country and not find a herd or flock for their viewing enjoyment and will demand that there be farm/parks created to remedy this injustice.

Yup, I don't eat none of that make believe crape either.

Funny how after knowing that the law did not cover the AR's, the justice department continued to prosecute cases. Plea deals? or something more sinister?

I'm sure how ever they "fix" the problem it will hurt gun owners.
At the very least all the serialized lowers out there will remain firearms and the old unserialized upper are now untraceable firearms that generally aren't allowed to be sold legally as is.
