I take Veterans Day off and participate in my grandkid's school presentation. After that, I pull them out school and visit the town war memorial park to eat junk food while I explain the different monuments and what each represents historically and in family relevancy. I figure bringing the sound of playing happy children to that place might honor the ghosts that may rest there in a way us sad old guys never can. Then a quick trip to the cemetery to show them to my dad and tell him what the kids have got going on. Then the world sweeps them away from me for another year until we can all play together again without parents and schedules or other distraction.
