Are your eyes that good?

In my youth, I could shoot a golf ball off a fence post at a hundred yards with no problem. (iron sites) Now? Maybe a softball. Definitely something the size of a face. I'm thinking of that Quigly Down Under movie, can anyone here see a bucket at 700-plus yards? I sure can't. It would be tough with a scope. I saw a video today on YT where some guy claimed to shoot the bucket in a recreation. I don't think it's possible and I'm a really good shot. I once watched a video where a woman shot at an elk at 800 yards (with a scope) and hit its leg. It wasn't good. I prefer clean kills at under 300 yards.
Maybe it's my eyes and others have eagle eyes or something.

I had cataracts a couple years ago and got my eyeballs overhauled. Now have 20/20 but not sure there's enough detail to pick a golf ball off a fence post at 100 yards with iron sights.

    It'd be entertaining to try.

I can, but I was gifted fighter pilot eyes at birth, and so far, they haven't failed me, what's even better, I have incredible depth perception, which makes shooting so much more precise. All that comes at a price though, I absolutely MUST wear sun glasses when outside, or I get debilitating migraines that last several hours, eye strain is a real deal for me, and I also get dri eyes super easy, so I also carry lots of eye drops in my pocket to keep the fluid sorta warm.

The Quigly Down Under shot has always been controversial, but recently, a team went to the actual range site where the film was done, and they ranged it out at around 375 yards or so, far under the claimed distance of the movie!
For Funzies, I have been known to show up at Black Powder Matches with a few of my original shooter grade Colt Rifles and ring steel at 800+ yards! This is a common competition where Black Powder is required, usually fired from a Sharps or Sharps replica in one of the ultra large metallic cartridges like .45/110 or .45/140 or some such. Touching off a round from the bench and then waiting to hear the clank of the steel come back to you, it's pretty cool, takes longer then you think! Average Muzzle Velocity for mine at a .50/150 by charge weight firing a 465 grain conical solid is around 2200 FPS, and flight time plus return report is around 9 seconds total!

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

    I've hit a 16" iron gong at 500 yards with a 45/70 Sharps. Maybe 8 years ago.

A buddy had a video of him hitting a dog baboon (whatever that is) at 800 yds with the rifle. Iron sights.

My color vision is off and the trifocals aren't always my friend these days.

nope. But what i shoot at is big enough to shoot with irons out to about 200 maybe even more depending on the freedom seed dispenser and what sighting system it running (peeps, red dot, glass).
Troy battle sights are pretty nice. I can punch holes it a B27 silhouette at 200 all day long.
Around my AO a 200 yard shot is long distance. Maybe along the power line easement I might be able to try out further.

That's one thing I really miss about living out West. Basically anywhere people don't live is your gun range, as far as the eye can see. Up north, you're lucky to get a 300 yard shot. And the utility lines like VisuTrac mentioned aren't much better up in the mountains. Hard to judge distance at times, but I suppose a rangefinder would serve well. Then you pop off a few shots and there are helicopters chasing you and you're in a pickle.
