Berkeley's history department has issued a statement regarding the anonymous letter, and instead of addressing - or inviting a vigorous debate over its content, Berkeley's response validates one of the letter's core claims that dissent outside "a tightly policed, narrow discourse" is not welcome. Whew! Very Impressive letter, extremely well written also... I would not doubt for a second that if the author is ever named that he will be shown the door...and sadly never work again in his field. Something happen like this in the beginning of the Nazi era. Historians in Nazi Germany had to get on board with the Master/Aryan race myth and even went so far to alter historical evidence and/or simply lie about archeological finds. It killed German archology creditability and its effects are still felt to this day. I will be saving this letter for future reference... Thanks! EDIT: I just had this thought... Horst Wessel was a Nazi party activist and a leader in its SA and he was also a local pimp/gangster. In general, not a very nice man, in fact, he was a brutal thug. With exceptional propaganda, he was made a martyr, a hero and idolizes after he was killed by a communist thug during the street brawls. (Note: He wrote the "Song of Horst Wessel" (also known as 'Die Fahne Hoch') one of the most popular song of the Nazi party and was their official anthem.) I find this strangely similar with what is occurring/happening with George Floyd.
