All my kids are lefties and I am looking for a budget rifle that can shoot 5.56. Bolt action would be fine but I don't seem to find any budget priced lefty rifles. Recommendations?
The Savage Axis chambered for the223 will be as cheap as yo can get. Problem is, they sell so well that finding any in stock is hard. If you have any sizable gun shows in you AO will be your best bet.
I. think Ruger makes a Bolt Action Rifle in .223.... in the “American Series”.... Nope just checked... However Savage Arms Model 11 has a LH Bolt Action Rifle in .223...
Generally (but not always) ARs will fling brass to 4 o'clock. I don't see a problem, but then again, I'm a righty. Bolt guns are a whole different issue for lefties.
How about a .223 lever action? Or maybe a ruger 77 bolt or a IWI Tavor semi auto bull pup? edit .. sorry missed the budget part. the Tavor is probably out side of budget.
I'm a lefty and live very well in a right handed world let them figure it out they will be just fine I learned to hunt as a kid with a bolt action 20 ga no issues when you practice
Second the "work it out" methodology. No problems with any of the right handed rifles i've used...to include shooting 100-10x targets in competition with a righty bolt action. Adapt, overcome, kick butt!
I don't know your budget or whether semiauto is out or not but building a lefty AR isn't normally a budget buster if you watch the sales. If your not for the carbine or shorty look just build it with the rifle barrel and furniture.
There are options for a lefty AR not to expensive. After digging around a bit, i see uppers and bolts available for little more then the normal price, as well as the side chargers. Depending on budget, it looks dooable!
Even if you do get a lefty rifle, I would highly recommend making sure they can effectively operate a right handed one...just in case.
I wanted to use my 5.56 ar ammo in a bolt action. I am just not all that crazy about my AR. If I ever get it to function right it will hang somewhere handy for bad times. I have backup rifles in .22 for my kids.
A3 Flattop Upper Receiver Assembly Left-Handed Built a lefty using the above about 3 years ago. Stag has all the stuff needed or complete uppers ready to pin on. Shooting lefty has never been cheap-that's why my father made me learn to shoot right handed.
