They arrived quietly on March 16. I actually wasn't done with their house yet, and cut six feet off the new pole this morning. Since I don't want to keep disturbing them I will drop their pole one more time tonight and finish some repairs, then it'll be all theirs. Not the earliest they've returned, since they came in on March 12th in 2019.
Got it finished while at least one pair were out catching dinner. Watching them just fold their wings and dive is always fascinating to me. I could see them watching me from a great height. All seems to be functional now, and the only thing that may be necessary any time soon will be evicting some pesky sparrows that don't seem to be able to take a hint. A mouse trap where there nest used to be usually works, but I can find other ways to convince them to move on. Their fly-way still looks tight with all the trees, but since they were likely born here they have returned every year even as I move the pole around to clear the ever encroaching trees. They just swooped in, and seem to approve.
If buzzards are the new Robin to indicate Spring we had them arrive while we still had frost in the morning. I don't think I'd want a buzzard tree too close to my house.
There is a huge dead pine in the woods behind my house the Buzzards roost in every night in the summer. Or maybe they are watching me.....
We had buzzards roosting in tall pines in the back acre must have been 20 + what a stinking mess they made
