Homemade butter on the cheap and made easy.
What you will need is a mason jar and a paint can, and a wooden clothespin. The old fashioned kind without the spring. Or a wooden dowel about the same size. Some rags or dish towels.
What I do is check the discounted dairy section of my grocery store, once in a while they will mark down cream that is about to expire that day, which is the best cream for making butter. I take it home and just before I go to bed I take it out of the fridge, and set it on the counter. In the morning I pour it in the mason jar and add the cloths pin. Then I wrap a rag around the jar and stuff it in the paint can and stuff a bunch of rags around it to make it nice and snug in the can and put the lid on. Then I pop down the street to the local hardware store where they gladly put it in their paint shaker for 3 minutes. Take the can home open it up and pour off the butter milk, and get to making buttermilk biscuits, and when they are done slather them with the fresh butter. The hardest part is trying not to eat it all in one sitting.
