Hey a little play time is needed from time to time!!

We are pretty much freedom of speech here. If you don't violate the COC you are pretty much free to post any stupid crap you want.(in the proper forum!)
You can't fix stupid!! But you can have fun with it!!!

We have a Code of Conduct (COC) and ask that you please follow these standards. They are as follows:

    1. No personal attacks or insults. No posts whose intent is to inflame or otherwise provoke anger from another member (Flaming). We don’t mind if you disagree with another member of the board, we just ask that you keep it civil. We understand that in the heat of the moment we all get a little hot. Just try to remember that there is a good possibility somebody’s kid is going to be watching over their parent’s shoulder. We’re adults here so let’s try and act like it.

    2. No posting of racial, sexual, political or religious slurs. Civil debate on these issues is accepted. Malicious comments on or about them is not. This includes using slurs in your username, title, avatar, and signature line. We are visited by people from different countries, race, religion, males, and females; The staff members reserve the right to edit the above items and remove a members ability to edit them should they refuse to do so when asked.

    3. Posting pictures* or links to images which contain pornography, nudity (this includes any photo which contains a clear view of genitalia or female nipples), animal cruelty (this does not include hunting pictures), racism, sexism, or extreme violence. Such images will be removed and will result in a warning. A member’s ability to post may be stopped if they refuse to comply

*If the post has images of extreme violence or photos of women and men that are scantily clad please post a warning in the title. These images will not be tolerated when randomly inserted into other discussions. Our site is not about the posting of scantily clad bodies... If a picture comes up now and then that has this content, that's fine. Remember to post a Warning for those at work/home about it. The Inferno has the same rules. They are a bit more relaxed but still apply.

    4. Posting or linking of illegal activities (i.e. purchases, modifications, etc.) is strictly prohibited. These posts will be deleted immediately and the member will be warned.

    5. No posting of other people’s personal information (name, home phone numbers, addresses, unpublished e-mail addresses, etc.).

    6. Any post or link which threatens any group or individual or that advocates the overthrow of governmental bodies is strictly prohibited. The post will be deleted and the member warned.

    7. Posting discussions or topics with the intent to do the site harm will result in immediate suspension of the members account. Specifically creating topics meant to disrupt the day-to-day management, disrupt the ability of the site to function normally, and disrupt the member’s resources is prohibited.

    8. Posting the same topic over and over again or "spamming" is prohibited. Multiple topics with just slight differences in titles are not funny. There are times when several different members will post different threads on the same topic –– that is acceptable. It is not acceptable for the same member to do it over and over again. Those topics will be locked and the member will be warned. Spam advertisement postings will be immediately deleted and posting member will be banned. We don't do Spam. There are no three strikes rules for spammers as outlined below. If you think your post crosses the line, please contact an administrator or moderator for clarification before you post. We will review and get back to you as quickly as possible

    9. The moderators and the administrators here have rules to follow as well. None of us are gods. If you have a problem with one of us speak up. We will evaluate it fairly.

    10. Moderators will not delete threads unless they contain one of the above unacceptable COC violations. We will however lock them and send a private message to the person explaining why and politely asking them to not do it again. If the post contains a link or picture that violates the COC, the photo or link will be removed and the member warned.

Please try to post your threads in the appropriate categories.

We have a few areas that are not viewable by guests and search engines for certain topics. This is to try and stay uncensored by Work and Library Internet access.

Do not be offended if Staff moves your thread into a better area for your topic.

Please do not 'Hijack' a thread into a totally different direction than was intended by the original thread author. If you start to stray beyond a reasonable margin, consider starting a new thread.

Do not be offended if Staff prunes your posts off of a thread and into a new one.

We have established a 3 strike policy for COC violations:
#1 The first violation of the Code of Conduct rules will result in a warning from staff. This may be a PM or a response to a post. The post or thread containing the offense may, at the moderator’s discretion, be moved, edited, or deleted. A PM describing the action taken and reason why will be sent to the member.

#2 A second violation of the COC rules will result in an automatic 3-day ban. The member will be notified of why this action was taken and when their temporary ban will be lifted.

#3 A third violation of the COC rules will result in an immediate and permanent ban. The offender will be denied any further access to this site.

Any posts/threads or other activities that are borderline, but not in clear violation of the COC rules, will be evaluated by staff on a case-by-case basis.

Any actions deemed necessary will be determined and agreed upon by staff. This may include a warning to the member (not considered a first violation).

However, any repeat of the same offense, after being warned, will constitute a first violation.

Any one "skating the line" will be issued a first violation after three warnings for borderline offences.

In the event of a particularly egregious offense, a more severe response may be warranted. Staff will determine the proper response.
    .

    Appeals process:

Any actions of staff may be appealed by membership by sending a PM to any staff member and asking for a review of the action. This does not apply to temporary or permanent bans. These actions will be known and reviewed automatically by staff.

Fishing season opened yesterday but I didn't go because my fishing buddy (my grandson) had to study. His recent report card did not produce very favorable grades so he was forbidden from opening day fishing. We did go today - hit 2 lakes - with very modest results. I got a couple pumpkinfish, a pike, and a largemouth bass. Unfortunately, his luck was even worse with no catches, just a few nibbles. He was allow to go today because I convinced him that a good extra credit project for science would be to build a worm farm and write a paper about the project. We got all the necessary supplies and I ordered the red wiggles on-line so next week end we should be stocking the farm. Keeping him motivated in school is a big challenge so something that interests him is a good start. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Wow, RH! Opening day missed because of some lousy grades? That's harsh, couldn't you have just made him read Tom Sawyer?JK...LOL if anyone can motivate him, it will be grandma!

It was actually his mom and dad who imposed the sentence. Grammy would have probably come up with something a little less painful but not necessarily as effective. He got a lot of studying done so he could go today.

When I send an important email, I often request a read receipt. I usually get the "this message was read on (date/time)" response, but this morning, I received one I've never seen before and it made me giggle:

"Your message has been displayed to the user.
There is no guarantee that the message was read or understood."

    [LMAO]

I just came in the house to cool off and rest. Just spent the last hour and a half delivering a calf. I was helping a buddy do some vet work on his horses. We went in to town to grab some lunch and on the way back we spotted a cow down in a pasture. Belonged to a nieghbor down the road a couple of miles. We got out, hopped the fence and went and checked on her. She had been trying to give birth and the calf was dead. Only the head and one hoof was out and it was dry. She had been there for awhile. We tried pulling it the rest of the way out but were getting no where. We called another nieghbor up the road, they called the guy who owned the cow but he was out of town. The other nieghbors husband was gone but she brought us a calf puller. A come-along with an extension that braces against the cow. We tried pulling with that and made some progress but then it hung up again. By then the ranchers grandson showed up. He brought some dishsoap and started soaping up the calf. We pulled some more and he could feel a hoof of the calf had perforated the canal wall and was hung up. We had to shove the calf back in so he could free the hoof. We pulled more and got it to it's hips but it wouldn't budge any farther.
It was about 90 degrees and we were in the middle of an open pasture. Couldn't get a vehicle down to where we were.We were all about beat. But after a lot more pulling and greasing and manipulating the dead calf it finally popped out.
We were all covered with blood and cow poop and assorted nastyness. We washed up in a nearby pond. The mama cow seemed to be no worse the wear for the ordeal. She was on her feet when we left.
Came home, drank a gallon of cold water, took a shower and turned the ac on high.
To bad about the calf. It was a bull and a damn big one too. But we saved the mama cow. In this heat and as worn out as she was I don't think she would have lasted much longer. We actually thought that she was dead when we first saw her.

Since I miss the in depth discussions we had in the early years of SurvivalMonkey, I have been rereading the old threads and bumping some of them for our newer members. Gosh, we covered a lot of ground for the small initial group.

Yep, those were good days. I enjoyed the time we had before we went public. What did we have 12 of us? We had some good discussions.
Thanks for bumping the old threads. A lot of the newer members should be able to learn a lot from them. And we get a trip down memory lane.

Yep, we covered a lot of ground in the early days. I've often thought that the "Complete Knowledge" is here, but then find something new from the new folks that join and contribute. And, of course, there is always new gear to look at, and new circumstances to think and plan for. We ain't done here yet; if nothing else, we are preserving information in one place. Nothing here can't be found elsewhere, but this is concise. What I'm really looking for is when melbo comes back and starts adding all the stuff from the forum back into the main SM site and update what is there from 10 years ago. As good a resource as the main site is, there is material there that could be brought forward.

Which reminds me, I need to read a couple chapters of Animal Farm for the discussions on Monday. It might be difficult to take the position that Napoleon was right --

    huh....Everything old is new again....

    Come gather 'round people
    Wherever you roam
    And admit that the waters
    Around you have grown
    And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
    If your time to you
    Is worth savin'
    Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

    Come writers and critics
    Who prophesize with your pen
    And keep your eyes wide
    The chance won't come again
    And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
    And there's no tellin' who
    That it's namin'.
    For the loser now
    Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

    Come senators, congressmen
    Please heed the call
    Don't stand in the doorway
    Don't block up the hall
    For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
    There's a battle outside
    And it is ragin'.
    It'll soon shake your windows
    And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

    Come mothers and fathers
    Throughout the land
    And don't criticize
    What you can't understand
    Your sons and your daughters
    Are beyond your command
    Your old road is
    Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

    The line it is drawn
    The curse it is cast
    The slow one now
    Will later be fast
    As the present now
    Will later be past
    The order is
    Rapidly fadin'.
    And the first one now
    Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'......

My dog wrapped a rope around my ankle and bolted at full speed, attempting to outrun the water that was on its way to her coat for her bath. I've never had such a water-fearing dog before. Nor have I ever had such a delightful rope burn before. Deep burn, some skin removal, surrounded by a lovely shade of blue.

    She's lucky I love her. :)
