His administration just released an executive order that will make it difficult for Bush to shield his White House records--and those of former Vice President Dick Cheney--from public scrutiny by invoking the doctrine of executive privilege. Shortly after taking office, Bush handed down his own executive order, amending the Presidential Records Act to give current and past presidents, along with their heirs, veto power over the release of presidential records, which are considered the property of the American people. "[Obama]'s putting former presidents on notice that if you want to continue a claim of executive privilege that [Obama] doesn't think is well-placed, you're going to have to go to court," says Anne Weismann, the chief counsel for Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington (CREW). During the campaign, Obama promised to "nullify attempts to make the timely release of presidential records more difficult." (A transition spokesperson promised Mother Jones essentially the same thing when we asked a few weeks ago.) That was a reference to former president Bush's infamous Executive Order 13233 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, which gave current and former presidents and vice presidents, along with their heirs, unprecedented authority to block the disclosure of White House records. But Obama's taken his campaign promise a step further. While revoking 13233, Obama has also put forth a far stricter interpretation of executive privilege:

There's a good point above: an NSA guy named Tice has come forward "stating now that the bush bots have taken the midnight train to crawford; Hes more comfortable about coming forward..Just as all the ct folks said" they" WERE listening to grandmas' in kansas not just international calls (to "terrorists") as they originally tried to claim.and journalists were singled out for 24/7/365 attention email, phone, net-surfing habits. I hope they pursue it.
The only way the office of the President will ever come under "real" and "true" scrutiny, is if the intentions were to destroy the establishment altogether. The facts of the past speak true, and to name only two of the most resounding; Nixon - Watergate coverup, and the Clinton - Chinagate coverup. The American People watched on television, and viewed scandal and deceit...but they weren't watching the real story. This could be nothing more than added leverage for the new administration. With the new office also comes previously established bridges that have been built by 8 years of Bush. This could seriously impede the intended course of action of the current President, not to mention the fact that he will now also incur the absolute power of a dictator while presiding. Additionally, by not calling the Bush secret card, Obama will be allowing the Corpoliticals to essentially continue their blacked-out scandalous dealings. This could very well end up dirtying his own hands, if it is not handled immediately. Once he is also thoroughly involved, it makes the process of doing ones' own work quite difficult, indeed. Just a thought, but we all know at least a little about politics in this era.
