I like beer, being a Brit who lives in Bavaria 30+kms South of Paulaner and a few other brewery's, who also served in the Army, travelled the world and drunk more than his share of their beer while doing it.

I have to admit my beer consumption has dwindled over the past years, and I prefer a Shot or two of Glen Morangie or Fiddich to bring the day to an end.

I was away over the weekend, a few people with whom I had the honour to serve with came over for a long weekend, and we met up at a Hotel and then moved on to a beer tent to get really wrecked, mission accomplished.

A great time to visit Portland

In 1933 the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution repealed the 18th Amendment, which had mandated nationwide Prohibition. Since the Oregon Brewers Festival turns 21 this year, the event finds it fitting to celebrate the ratification of the 21st Amendment during its four-day course. One of the nation's longest-running and best-loved craft beer festivals will take place July 24 through July 27 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. Hours will be Noon to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and Noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Seventy-two craft breweries from 18 different states will each send one product to serve at the event, hailed by many industry experts and beer fans alike as the premier craft beer festival in the nation. A 73rd beer, Collaborator, is a joint project between members of the Oregon Brew Crew homebrewing club and Widmer Brothers Brewing Co. More than 60,000 beer connoisseurs annually travel from around the world to sample the vast number of beer styles, which highlight the influences that different regions have on the brewing process.

The Oregon Brewers Festival takes place during Oregon Craft Beer Month, a celebration of craft beer by Oregon's specialty breweries. A variety of special events will take place at craft breweries throughout the state, culminating with the Oregon Brewers Festival. The Oregon Brewers Festival was founded in 1988 as an opportunity to expose the public to microbrews at a time when the craft brewing industry was just getting off the ground. Today, that industry has succeeded, especially in Oregon, and particularly in the city of Portland. There are currently 89 craft brewing facilities in Oregon, and 32 breweries operating within the Portland city limits – more than any other city in the world. The Portland metropolitan area boasts 40 breweries, making it the largest craft brewing market in the United States. For more information about the Oregon Brewers Festival, visit www.oregonbrewfest.com

Although not exactly a beer, I have a new favorite beverage:

    Strongbow Cider
    [IMG]

I got a taste for this stuff at Colonial Williamsburg last week. I searched around my hometown until I found a place that sells it. Fermented apple cider...YUM

Wow a beer thread! I think I love you guys...

The one thing I brought home from Germany is a love for beer! Specifically, a pint of Beamish Stout with a long shot of either Bushmills or Jameson Irish Whiskey added to it. Speaking of which, I am drinking exactly that as I type this! Guinness will even do in a pinch :lol:but then what good stout wouldn't do?

I also learned a love for hefe wiesen! Ayinger and Paulener are two of my favorites. Trying to find a good hefe brewed here in the states is a lesson in frustration though. The best I have had to date is out of Coopersmiths up in Ft Collin, CO. Traditional brewers so it's only brewed during the summer months. If you guys are familiar with other breweries that put out a good hefe here in CO let me know. I'm also very fond of the dunkels. Ayinger and Warstiener come to mind.

Oh if you're in the Salt Lake CIty area stop in to the Bohemian brewerie on S 7200 just west of State St down in Midvale. Try the perogies and brauts! You won't be disappointed and their traditionally brewed Czech style beers are worth the trip. I always make sure to stop in when I'm over the mtns!

    Hey Byte,

The breweries that you mentioned are about 15 (Ayinger) to 30 (Paulaner) kilometres away from where I live [lolol].

I much prefer the Tegernseer Brauhaus or even the Holzkirchener over either of your choices, then there is the all time favourite Hopf....

    Good news for Clyde

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago,
    You will have $49.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you will have
    $33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago,
    You will have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all
the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling refund, you
    Will have received a $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily
& recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a
Year. Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons
Of alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Americans get about 41
    Miles to the gallon!

Makes you proud to be an American!
