Thanks for the pointer, WPM. I have a modern machine, but learned how to sew a l o n g time ago on a treadle. Trust me, I can do reverse on one as well as forward. As for zig zag - it's possible on some machines, but not absolutely necessary, in my opinion.

The only times I see a treadle at a yard sale or auction it's either non-working or it goes for more money than I have that day. *sigh* But now that I know you know what you're talking about and will post pics, I'm looking forward to seeing more!

I just put back two cases of the pre cooked bacon. Everybody knows that bacon makes it better.

Picked up my 200 rnds of 30-30, along with 100 bullets (for reloading and to go with the other 300 I already have).
I also picked up 1100 rnds of .22lr.

I need to get more storage bins for my ammo, I keep running out of room. And I have another 1k rounds of .223 coming in next week. Now, where to put it all???

Until I moved here, I had not had one, nor even a garage since 91, have both now. What a luxury. The offer still stands, and I'll even drive down and transport some of it. Will help reduce the inventory prior to transporting, too, if that will help --. [troll] Or, come on up, plenty of space for visitors (also a luxury after that damned cramped townhouse.) [beer]
Back to the thread: Another 5 gallons of gas ($3.59/9) and a bottle of Stabile. 24 rolls of TP. Two more cans of stew. Need another 5 gallon gas can. [coffee2]

Slow week, as we have a gunshow coming NEXT weekend.....

Twenty pounds of Uncle Ben's Rice.
    Four pounds of Lentils.
    Four pounds of Baby Limas.
14 pounds of Baked Beans (canned).

Tried a jar of Smuckers brand Natural Peanut Butter - no danged Rapeseed Oil in this stuff. Good tasting, and an interesting texture. Not like that peanut-flavored plumber's putty from Jif and Peter Pan. Gonna stock up next time at the store!

Well Im back on the road for work, hopefuly untill around Christmas time, so my supplies have to go in my suitcase or truck. That said I put 10 gallons of gas in cans in the truck before leaving along with a new spare tire and 200 rounds of 9mm ammo. Went out today and got more jeans and about 40 powder packs of Gatorade and a radio. Hana hit today and was rather unimpressive. Wasnt to worried about it anyway since already had my first aid kit, 5 gallons of water, 2 weeks food, trapping and net fishing supplies, spare ammo, etc, etc with me but had never been in a tropical storm/huricane before so was aprehensive. I think it was cat 1 huricane but maybe high T/S and wasnt as bad as thunderstorms at home.

    One case of MRE's.

How long does hot sauce last? I was thinking of getting one of the big 1/2 gallon jars... I mean the stuff is basically salt and vinegar, what self respecting germ can stand that?

My experience is it starts tasting a little off about 2 months after it's opened. How much of that stuff do you use? [reddevil]

Tobasco Sauce has an offical shelf life of five years opened or unopend, but the sauce will start to darken after about three years without affecting taste.

A 23oz bottle of Frank's Red Hot will last me about 1 month. I was so concerned about the amount of staples I am storing that I forgot an important thing like flavor...

Well, this is what I *will* be putting away this coming week for sure:

*Canning up 5 gallon of lard into quart jars for the 'pantry' (pick up the lard either tomorrow or Tues at the butcher shop)

*Canning up the 5 gal and 2 gal buckets full of green beans we just picked (after we gave even more away! Hmm, maybe husband will find new homes for a few pounds more.) The winter's worth is already on the shelf, so to speak, but this will be extra for stews.

*Putting a few jars more of pickles on the shelf. I think the vines have finally given up.

*Canning up the four heads of red cabbage for cole slaw later in the winter

Anything beyond that is gravy ;)

You might want to air dry a couple of pounds of those beans and use them for sprouting. You do sprout? If fresh veggies aren't available from the store you can get them from your sprouter.

    I love home-made pickles (drool).

said with a evil-quirky grin Which are your favorite? Dill or sweet?

Oh, and am about 2/3 of the way through dehydrating the 20+ lbs of sweet potatoes we were given.

Put away 15 cans of Hormel stuff...... hash, chili, and SPAM baby!
    2 Water Jugs (2.5gal)
12 x Double Serving Mountain House Entree bags
2 x Mountain House Ice Cream Bars :)

Why don't you pickle some of the green beans? I like mine dilled.

Well, I was thinking about making dilly beans - but I've never tasted any and would hate to end up with 20+ pints of something nobody liked. Husband did manage to share out the 2 gallon bucket to a couple families of friends so there's only the 5 gal to process today. *phew*
