    I THINK that I shall never hear
    A poem lovely as a beer.
    A brew that’s best straight from a tap
    With golden hue and snowy cap;
    The liquid bread I drink all day,
    Until my memory melts away;
    A beer that’s made with summer malt
    Too little hops its only fault;
    Upon whose brow the yeast has lain;
    In water clear as falling rain.
    Poems are made by fools I fear,
    But only wort can make a beer.

    as Ben Franklin is once said to have opined - Beer is proof that God loves us.

    First, I watch Women's volleyball - it was OK, even my (much younger) sister had a full ride scholarship for playing volleyball. It was fun to meet her teammates.

    The I discovered NCAA (college) Beach Volleyball.

    much more fun-er.

    We used a coat hanger, rubber bands and a piece of t-shirt fabric. Low-tech and less powerful, but I can attest that they still could break a window.

    We would take a 2x4, pound a nail in the end, loop around heavy rubber strapping clinched by a modified clothespin to make it hold heavier loads, then slip a flattened metal lid from a Skoal can inside and shoot those at each other. We must have thought we were immortal. Luckily we were terrible shots, that could have ended very poorly.

    In 1970's Detroit we'd use a 2x4, some radio antenna, fence staples and a screen door latch and spring to build . 22 Short zip guns. Very effective, for what they were. Not as much fun as shooting hundreds of tightly rolled paper caps with a BB gun or smashing them with a brick. That was our version of Tannerite. ;). I was lucky to survive my childhood.

    We had a horse when I was a teen, actually my sister's horse. I rode a motorcycle. But, with livestock comes mice. I had a singleshot boltaction Stevens 15 in .22LR. I would remove the bullets from .22LR cartridges, dump out half the powder then load in a .22 pellet. Worked fairly well, up to a few yards, and the pellet wouldn't ricochet if it hit concrete, just splatter like hot solder. I bagged a few mice with it. Fed them to our chickens, those 'minidinosaurs' ate anything they could catch. Many years later I discovered the Colibri primer-only .22 loads, essentially the same idea but much more reliable.
