Have just under 4K in the same bills as Visu above. Also have 1oz. silver rounds and gold. If you're planning on trading with gold look into the below link, 100 gram sheets that can be broken apart.

I keep silver dimes and quarters for trade plus at least 3000 in the stash. I have found having cash in hand has allowed me to jump on deals I find often enough to justify having it on hand for that reason only. In a SHTF situation it will only have value as long as people believe the government is in power.

ED GEiN how are they hanging? I'm glad, and somewhat surprised, that you are still alive! How are things in California?

If I were worth millions, I would convert as much as possible to every type of currency available, including precious metals and common metals and materials as well.

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

I'd recommend at least 3 months worth.

I don't have it in cash but I could close the gate and not leave for that long.

I've got junk silver, skills, education, and odd or standard ammo for trade.

I'm planning on 2-5K in cash, all of my junk silver and my other preps. Depending upon the nature of the crisis, I'd use the money first, unless they are foolish enough to take credit cards or a personal check. About the only things that I would be interested in buying would be food, fuel, livestock, and maybe some medications, and if I act fast, they might take cash!

Its seems like at the very least a good population of the population would have to die off before anyone stops accepting cash.

probably about 55 billion worth of printed notes in circulation in the united states.
the rest of the 20+ trillion dollars is IOUs (I'll pay you tuesday for a hamburger today, loa)

Bank loans (cars, house, credit card, student loans, commercial and retail credit)
Banks basically create a loan backed by nothing .. not really lending out any money .. just saying Oh look, we created more money in the system.

EDIT: And that doesn't even account for all the forged currency overseas. I'm betting there is even more 'cash' overseas than actual cash in existence. Think there is 500B offshore and probably 5-10 percent of that is fake.

more edits: And this doesn't include the off shore banks that also create USD denominated loans that the borrower will somehow have to find dollars to pay off. And that is completely outside of our control.

Two thousand will take you a long way when eveyone else only has plastic.

There are more dollars owed than there are dollars.
