Complain all you wish and I have no idea of the quality of the construction of this road. I can only compare it to the Big Dig in Boston. 15 billion dollars, 3 times the planned cost, many years late, built with substandard materials and poorly designed. Been patching it from even before it was finished. The Chinese just built a free way thru a mountain range to connect two cities in Uygur region and fill a hole in their belt road to the west. It has a tunnel that shortens the travel time from about 7 hours to three for getting across the mountain. In the process they built the worlds longest free way tunnel, at 22.13 kilometers. It took less than 5 years to build the tunnel, using Chinese made equipment, and at an altitude of over 3000 meters. The 4 lane highway, like our interstates is 319 km long. They are kind of touchy on the Uygur's as they are Muslim, want their own country, and the US of course wants them to give it to the poor people. World's longest expressway tunnel built in Xinjiang Went from a nation with no real central government in 1940 to their present status. Don't care for rth Communist Party, but I admire what the Chinese people have done in the last 60 years and they seem to have the ability to do things. We seemed to have lost that ability for what ever reasons. US destroyer rebuilding programs being a perfect example of our ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Building modernized 1960 era destroyers after trying 3 different ships to replace them.
...because we gave it all to China. Steel mills, technology, personnel, not to mention a bunch of financing. Don't know that the tunnel was such a good idea...the region had a 7.1 quake less than a year ago.
One of our last big successful projects in Colorado. It is about 3 km long. 40 Facts about the Eisenhower Tunnel - Peak 1 Express 10 Of The Nation's Longest Tunnels
