A friend of my father's had a full-auto Colt M-16, but he rarely fired it because it used so much ammo and because he kept the receiver in a bank security box...it was worth $20,000 back then! I have been to a small local machine gun shoot and fired a Thompson and a .50 cal. Barrett rifle. It was nice but I wouldn't want to own one, but for less than $50 I got to shoot both. I fired about 5 rounds through a belt-fed M-60 in ROTC,... although it was just 5 rounds it did make that barrel full of dirt dance!

I want one just for collectible reasons. Too expensive to shoot.

Not a fan of spray and pray. I've always been a marksman. That's said I do have a couple of (semi) belt feds.

Know a guy here in kansas who got caught with several, he didnt fare so well. No major prison time but cost him his life savings.

I can see the value in a quality shoulder stable sub-gun. That's a niche that can be filled in most cases by the ever-shrinking battle rifle.

    But not always.

I've shot several Dracos and Krinkos and AR pistols and didn't like the feel of a single one of them. They always pissed me off, although I could shoot and move well. Braces just seem farther down the wrong direction.

If this stands, and I doubt it will, and given the political climate, I definitely see justification for purchase of a M249, or something highly portable, that could provide a huge amount of suppressing fire. No, I would not be shooting it at the range due to ammo usage and cost, it would only be used in an emergency but - yeah - I think it would be worth it to own one.

The question would be cost. I wouldn't pay $25,000 or some outlandish figure as one must compare the price against other ammo or weapons you could purchase for the same amount; however, the arrival of a belt fed in a fight definitely can tip the odds damn fast, morale wise as well as physically. So, I hope that if this ruling does stand, we'll see more of them produced for the civilian market driving the price down, but I am dreaming here... There is no way they will let this stand. None. Can you imagine gang bangers chewing each other up with these or turning them on the police? Nah...not going to happen.

When the registry opens back up (worst case scenario) get some full auto. It will freak out the gun grabbers.

I always thought a full auto integrally silenced 10/22 would be a great night gun for hunting coyotes.

Full auto receiver for my surplus M-16 I got from Sportsmen's Guide years ago might be nice

So how might this affect the Hoover case? If someone can own a Glock and switch how can they justify putting someone in jail for selling a metal card with some lines on it?

I am not a lawyer, but this ruling seems to only apply to the defendant at this time.

This matter is before the court on Defendant’s motion to dismiss based on Second Amendment grounds. (Doc. 26.) A response and a reply have been filed (Docs. 28, 29), and the court held a hearing to establish additional facts about the weapons charged. The motion is thus ripe for review. The court finds that the Second Amendment applies to the weapons charged because they are “bearable arms” within the original meaning of the amendment. The court further finds that the government has failed to establish that this nation’s history of gun regulation justifies the application of 18 U.S.C. § 922(o) to Defendant. The court therefore grants the motion to dismiss.

Now it could be appealed because this is a district court ruling, and be taken up to the supreme court so it's not the law of the land. Dude just got a good law dog.

It could be used as precedence for other cases in the district. And be used as case law in other districts but ultimately this is going to have to go up to the supremes sometime in the next 50 years.

All gun laws are bologny in my book. There are still gangs out there with full auto weapons. The military can have full auto, its only fair us law abiders should get em! Get rid of the NFA stuff to.

It doesn't. Typically convicted felon drug dealers caught dealing drugs and armed with switched glizzies usually get 1 to 2 years. So the hoover sentence makes no sense.

The biggest problem I see, It's not that t makes it to the Supremes or not, it's that Machineguns could be found Dangerous AND Unusual, and therefor, Verboten! Now, Constitutionally speaking, you are correct, there is NO precedent in banning such weapons historically, and in fact, one was expected and required to be armed to the same standards as the Military, and THAT means Machineguns DO fit within the unqualified command, and they in fact DO fit within the Common Use test, SO,................While I see Both sides of this coin, My gut tells me that SCOTUS will strike down the NFA, but will keep Machineguns limited, which the left will absolutely go nuts and loose their shit over, but it's the ONLY compromise they will ever manage to secure, for now! IF the court really does follow it's own precedent set in Heller/Bruen/Kitano/Miller,, then Machineguns ARE protected arms, and that would be a good thing! Cops have always had them, gangbangas and crooks, and just about everyone else on the wrong side of the law, and yet WE the PEOPLE have been limited, hopefully that gets changed!

While I have little use for any Machineguns, I do so like having a Browning M-2 handy about, Knowing that I have light anti aircraft capabilities as well as a serious counter to most non armored threats is sure nice to have, but I ain't paying the $10,000 for side plates, let alone over $100,000 grand for a complete unit, that's bullshit, I would pay $10,000 for a complete one with Tripod, Pintle, and Spare Barrels and tools, No need for the timing keys, I already got those, but could use a couple crates of ammo already linked!

I used to have a class III dealer that was a good friend. I got to shoot all manner of full auto weapons and learned how many common guns like an AK are made in full auto. Like a lot of things, they are fun for a bit until you start realizing how damn expensive they are to shoot. Then there is the tax stamp and other BS required to own one. Just not worth it to me. I'm glad there are folks out there keeping the dream alive. For me however the bestest most logical thing would be to take suppressors off the list. Had they been legal many years ago I probably wouldn't have the constant ringing in my ears now. I hold out hope that this recent decision is a stepping stone to the end of the NFA.

Im 33, suffering from hearing loss, i think by 50 it will be gone lol. Nothing like a constant ringing 20 hours of the day. Alot of it was working around loud equipment but i wore hearing protection alot at work. Never wore much out shooting though. My supressor is nice.
