Did some horse trading on some firearms. Ended up with a savage .308 heavy barrel. Has a big vortex scope, the scope rail setup covers the model but im assuming 10. Guy said it is a retired police sniper. Anyway to verify this? Thanks monkeys. Will get pics soon.
Most likely an Mod. 10 FCP or one of it's varients, 10-T/SR or 10-FP These are highly sought after and yet not well known, the FCP was the rifle that really put Savage on the map for SERIOUS shooting, and many LEO bought them as a much less expensive alternate to Remington 700's while being able to shoot every bit as good! We have a couple here, I have an Original FCP with heavy fluted barrel and the over sized round bolt handle, Wife has the newer 10-T/SR and both shoot lights out all day long! Hers came threaded and mine didn't. Mine had a fixed mag and plain jain stock, while hers had the Accu-stock and detachable mag, and could be converted to accept the ACIS pattern Mags which means it also takes the P-Mag Mags! Ether way, both are serious shooters and were very affordable, both have had thousands of rounds down the barrels and neither is showing any signs of wearing out, so we keep shootin!
Well had a harley davidson sitting in the garage, the up coming elections got me paranoid and figured i needed to build my collection up again. So i got several rifles and a shotgun.
Any ideas on what that scope mount might be? Googles letting me down, its a one piece unit, has 3 mounting points on it though, 1 top and 1 on each side. Extends pretty far over the barrell.
You seem pretty knowledgleable on this platform, barrel just says savage model 10 .308, stock is a H-S precesion. No fluted barrel just a bull barrel. Would it say fcp on it anywhere? Thanks
Most all Mod 10's are the same, the FCP means Short Action, Non Accustock, Bull Barrel, and the earlier ones were non threaded and fluted and pre accu-trigger, but Savage has constantly changed so much so that it's nearly impossible to tell which one you have! Assuming it's the original barrel, I would say it's a late FCP, and if threaded, it's also an S/R! If it's a full house Mod 10 with bottom metal that takes the ACIS type mags, then you have a M-110 FP!
The new version of that rifle is the Savage 110 Tactical. Savage now calls the short action rifle a 110 along with the long and magnum actions. The main difference is the Tactical has the Accustock with a semi beaver tail front end that also has two sling studs so you can have a sling and a bipod at the same time. It also comes with a fluted and threaded barrel. The Desert comes with a FDE stock but no flutes. I got that one mainly because the lighter color stays cooler in the sun if you have to use it for sniping duty. The FCP has a more vertical hand grip than the Tactical stock where the Tactical stock has an adjustable cheek riser and length of pull. The Tactical also has an oversize bolt knob and takes AICS mags, and that's a definite plus. These rifles are serious stupid inexpensive at about $750, then add a $500-$800 Arken and a bipod and you are in 1000+ yard business. Thought I'd post my Tactical with a big ole Arken 6-24x scope for a comparison since it's the "updated" FCP. The picture was taken before I adjusted the stock. My shooting is still effed up with my near healed foot injury and brand new back injury from a fall. This year is still about rehab and by next year's shooting season will be able to not only do some prone shooting but get back up as well.
