This one isn't our yurt, but it is beautiful. We stayed in Volcano and are getting ready to buy a plot soon to build a dome. I wanted to stay in the different neighborhoods up there to see which one I like the most.

Wow! I haven't seen anything like this. Motivating for sure. Fitness has become a form of rebellion and I'm in! Thanks for sharing.

I've been out of my routine due to more frequent adventures. It might be time for me to switch things up rather then feeling like I'm failing when I "miss a workout."

I don’t want to disappoint my small cheering section, that could be brutal at the next family gathering. Lol. :D

Ever since we got back from our adventure in the mountains, we've been going back at least every other day. It's been hard for me to find the energy and motivation to workout.
I'm here, but I want to be there LOL:
There's a 20 degree difference in temperature and that really makes a huge difference. I didn't really believe it, before, but the heat can be so draining.

    Last week I read:

    • "Gods of Jade and Shadow" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia A few summers ago in July I read her novel, "Mexican Gothic" and it was SO good. This book is Fantasy, Mythology, Romance, and Historical Fiction set around the Roaring Twenties in the jungles of Yucatan. The Mayan God of Death sends a young woman on a harrowing, life-changing journey in this dark fairy tale inspired by Mexican folklore, for readers of The Song of Achilles and Uprooted.

Here we shall begin to tell a story: a tale of a throne lost, of monsters and magic. A tale of gods and of the shadow realm. But this, our story, it begins in our world, in the land of mortals.

It begins with a woman. For this story, it is her story. It begins with her. I'm going to give it a 4 star rating. In the past I wasn't a huge fan of the Fantasy genre, but lately it has been growing on me especially if it's a Historical Fiction.
    • "Foster" by Claire Keegan It is a hot summer in rural Ireland. A child is taken by her father to live with relatives on a farm, not knowing when or if she will be brought home again. In the Kinsellas’ house, she finds an affection and warmth she has not known and slowly, in their care, begins to blossom. But there is something unspoken in this new household—where everything is so well tended to—and this summer must soon come to an end.
    I'm currently reading:

    • "Finder's Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy #2) by Stephen King A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far—a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. I'm pretty sure that I'm obsessed with this series!
    • "Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-scale Permaculture Reclaiming Domesticity from a Consumer Culture" by Toby Hemenway I have been wanting to read this for years and am learning so much! The first edition of Gaia’s Garden sparked the imagination of America’s home gardeners, introducing permaculture’s central message: Working with Nature, not against her, results in more beautiful, abundant, and forgiving gardens. This extensively revised and expanded second edition broadens the reach and depth of the permaculture approach for urban and suburban growers.
This week is going to be a bit hectic. We are hiring professionals to take down 2 giant, top heavy palm trees to create space for the new Septic tank which is going in this week. There was just no way to safely do it from the ground and I didn't want either of us to take the risk with cutting from the top down.
I'm also bottle feeding 2 newborn piglets whose mom was killed by a hunter, but that's another story. LOL. And I have some jungle bright hatchlings on heat. The heat lamp is being shared by the hatchlings AND the piglets in my living room.

In about 4 weeks time is our first annual family 10K. When I do my short run I imagine going approximately 6 times further and I can’t imagine it. Yikes!

That sounds like a lot of fun and I think you're going to do great because you've been consistently training. It might feel like a little stretch, but you'll find your rhythm. Also, family runs / 10K's are so much fun. I used to love running 10Ks with my sister. There was a year that we did a bunch in the fall almost every weekend... That was 13 years ago. Yikes! I think my favorite 10K was a series called "Run to Drums" in Lincoln Park, West Seattle. They had live drummers, but my favorite part was the swings by the water.

A bit out of my routine again. A trench is being dug for the new septic tank and I thought the water and plumbing wasn't getting shut off until tomorrow. Oops. I'm so thankful that it's getting done sooner than later. It's taken 6 months to get to the point of breaking ground. Nothing gets done quickly on the island unless you do it yourself...
We've been in the middle of a drought for most of the summer and I was getting concerned about my rain water catchment level. Of course on the day that the contractor starts working, we get a massive downpour, but can only collect from one of the houses because my house is disconnected from the collection system.
No workout today, yet, but I feel like I've been running around and feeding all the various critters. Does that count?
Today's theme was: "Let's make some noise!" Between the excavator digging the trench and jackhammering into lava and the piglets squealing and screaming, it got really noisy." :ROFLMAO:

    Happy August!
It only took 2 days without running water and plumbing for me so set my anxiety aside and visit our community pool. In Hawaii all community pools are free which is amazing because where I'm from, it always costs a fee. I've wanted to visit for years, but my anxiety stopped me. There were no lanes since swim team was in session and I even count yardage because I was so happy and in my element!
And then this morning, I went to the gym for the first time since 2018. Have I told you that I had a serious gym phobia? Even though I worked at a lot of health clubs and gyms throughout high school and beyond, but for some reason strength training was so intimidating. When I lived in Portland, Maine back in 2018, I joined a gym and my anxiety was so high that I had to text a friend before going in and she would encourage me. I had a great workout this morning:
I warmed up with a mile on the treadmill and alternated between walking at a 12% incline and jogging.
    • 3 x 10 Arnold Presses (25lb db)
    • 3 x 15 Reverse lunges with a knee drives (15 lb db)
    • 3 x 15 Renegade rows with a pushup (15 lb)
    • 3 x 30 weighted sit ups (25 lbs)
    • I also did 2 sets of body weight inverted rows from the bar
Then I finished with 10 minutes on the stepmill.
It's a small gym and there were no dark corners for me to hide in. I guess I felt comfortable because the only other person in the free weight section was who I thought was an older lady in a hot pink tank top. She was doing a lot of reverse crunches and I didn't have my glasses on... I guess it worked out for the best because if I knew it was a man then I might not have worked out in that area. I have a 3 day free pass and maybe I'll join. Not sure yet.
Long story short when I got to my car that person came out and it turns out that it was a young man. Oops.

I'm in Alabama, so you're not telling me that haven't known all my life! Currently, I'm swimming a lot because of the heat and doing light workouts with weights at the gym. As soon as cooler weather gets here, in about 60 days, I plan to start walking. I want to stay in good shape because of work and the fact that I'm getting older. "Use and move it or lose it"!

I know a lot of broken-down weightlifters. Most would say they wish they’d used lighter weights and better technique. One’s ego (guilty) gets involved at the gym. Nobody sees me with my rubber bands (free from work) or gyro ball thank God. Lol.

60 more days? You're still in the thick of that summer heat. It sounds like you have a good routine to accommodate the high temperatures. I finally swam some laps at the local pool. Thank you for planting the seed and inspiring me to give it a shot. It feels so therapeutic. Stay cool and hydrated!

@Meat yeah, it's a problem if the workout starts breaking the person down, physically. Today I did a fair amount of bodyweight exercises, but I challenged the edge of my mobility to see where I'm at. It's getting better. It was a little too crowded for dips in the bench area though. Luckily, I can do those at home with a chair.

I'm 73 pounds down and I'm starting to look like I am a kid wearing his dad's hand-me-downs.

I need to go to Goodwill. I'm not going to buy a new wardrobe that is just going to be too big in 6 months.
