I've been working in the same shop for 25 years. (I know, I know... can't hold a job. ) The Overhead Door guys have my door balanced so a tug on the extra long rope as I back a car out will drop the door. This saves me getting out of the car, and saves lots of time, which keeps the A/C inside.

Trouble has been that the rope was often just out of reach. I solved this with three zip ties. They seem to keep it always at my fingertips when backing a car out.

A very good idea!

 

It looks scary the first time you see me drop the door while backing out, but the length of the rope ensures the car is clear before the door drops.
