Around 6:15 pm HST, I saw a contrail as I stepped out. It was coming out of the NE. Both seem unusual to me. We don’t have too many contrails in Hawaiian skies. And a high flyer at high speed from that direction seemed unusual. It passed overhead and crossed about 2/3 of the sky in seconds. No sonic boom. As it passed overhead, the late afternoon sun made it more visible, even though it was a speck. It was triangular or plane shaped, and the light seemed to show the exhaust making its thrust. Any ideas? IMG_2699 by Hanzo posted Jul 22, 2024 at 19:37
Could have been a rocket. But that would be a highly irregular but still plausible retrograde orbit. If it was above 70,000ft the thud would only be detectable with seismic equipment.
I don’t know. It did not look like a rocket. Although it looked like three stages of flight. Big contrail first stage, small contrail second stage with higher speed and third stage with no contrail and even higher speed.
if civilian or civilian biz jet it should show up here Live Flight Tracker - Real-Time Flight Tracker Map | Flightradar24 or here FlightAware - Flight Tracker / Flight Status if yall wanna git some trackers Sec_monkey Inc can make a few hardware based trackers
I was wondering if it was part of RIMPAC. Bear said it would be funner if it was aliens. I replied, “Not if they ask to see our leader.”
I use this one to track aircraft: ADS-B Exchange - track aircraft live Also, I use radios so it's kinda normal hobbyist stuff.
