The subject of nationalized health care keeps coming up here in the States. I've always been a skeptic of added layers of government bureaucracy making things better and improving efficiency, saving costs, etc..

So, our northern cousins, how is your experience and is the liked article accurate in your experience or does it miss the mark? Would you choose the current US system or stick with what you have if given the opportunity?

Id say it's a BS article .
Id say (since I know many Vets) Canada looks after them so much better..and I do know a few American Vets from USA .. Now I am talking WW2 boys , as with the latest vets , I think both sides suck (But i don't know for sure , just the tone of the conversation) .

As with the Non mil folks , Nope that is not true, we do have wait times , due to poor education crap since the 70's as with you guys.(lack of good quacks or pill pushers )

I know a few Canucks with Duel citizenship who will always cross the border to get health care in the states, then take their scripts north with them to get the meds FAR FAR cheaper! If I were to read between the lines, I would say that the AMerican Pharma has a stranglehold on the Docs here, and is forced to play ball or get out! I'm told our care is somewhat better here in the states, but not by much! VA care....................fuggettaboutit, I know it sucks the big one here in the states, and have been told it's a bad joke north of the border, though jjst how bad, I don't know!

Socialized care doesn't work, it's far worse then we are told here, Look at Switzerland, you pay 75+% of your income to taxes and health care, play the waiting game, and get sub par care and are forced to take what they give you for doctors! That system drives the good doctors away, and you end up like Kaiser, where the only docs they can attract are fresh off the boat or fresh students, and failed professionals who need the work! The Old Joke was Kaiser Will Kill you still applies! With what care I get through Veterans Choice, I do Ok overall, but it's not all that good ether, lots of pill pushing ( with the push to generics HARD) and very little time spent actually with the doctor, and lots and lots of waiting around, because i'm a second class citizen to all the illegals who use the system for free, and they take up all the time, while i'm made to wait! One time I just went home, after sitting there 4 hours ( long past my appointed time) I went ballistic on the staff and the floor boss and walked out, even the security guards waiting for me saw the look on my face and decided it best to be doing something else instead of walking me out! I guess you need to be leaking red to get any kind of priority! ANd there there is the whole getting paid by the VA for care the system provided, i'm not supposed to ever see a bill, and yet I have a collections notice for $1400 outstanding that the VA denied, even though I qualify fully! This is the norm, hold off as long as you can take it, then finally go in to get looked at, then a few months later the letters start showing up demanding payment!
How many illegals get letters demanding payment for the care they got for free? ZILCH, NADA, ZERO
Hell even the health care in the Ukraine is better, they see everybody, and some how the system keep functioning, though your not really a person there, just a means to an end for them to get paid and keep working where unemployment is almost 70%!

 

How accuracy does this article represent the Canadian healthcare system?

It seems more reminiscent of universal healthcare in Germany circa 1939.

Vancouver island is pretty large and the Nanaimo community is maybe(?) 100k. I've recently heard they are only served by a senior nurse and no doctors available.

It takes months to be seen at a scheduled visit and the food tastes like ass.

Just what the family told me last week...
