So I have some nice land, 10 acres of open field, near the ocean, about 1 million acres of forest in the back yard, about 2.5 hours from both Seattle and Portland. Deep water well, 5,000 gallon water storage, septic systems, solar arrays, etc.
When I lived in the big city I always wanted a fallback location or rally spot where I could flee to in an event and resupply myself and exchange information and resources with others. Even stay there a few days while I develop a plan. A place me and my loved ones could regroup far outside the city. Now I have that spot and I want to share it with like minded people who are in big cities. A place they can go to in an SHTF event, a rally spot of sorts that has plenty of clean drinking water and place to stay and camp for a few days on private property for members only. I want to offer it as a service for people that need an initial rally spot. Thoughts?

Sounds good at first, but Prepping is not a group activity. This a when you want to be a Lone Wolf... trust me on this! If these folks are Preppers they can camp in the 1 million acres of forest. Accept the fact that in a real honest to GOD SHTF situation most people are gonna suffer and then die! Again, trust me on this! Folks that want to set-up a soup kitchen have a death wish. This spot needs to be for you and your loved ones, but don't be surprised when unprepared and unwelcome people show up. That is why you need to be prepared to point toward the woods and force them to leave, at gunpoint if necessary!

This concept has been floated by transient SM members from time to time over the years. Their engagement with the site's membership tended towards recruitment. I am not aware of any that are enduring contributing members of the site beyond spruiking their particular project.

I knew of a guy who tried this in Statesville, NC back in the 80's. He opened his land to anyone who wanted to eat from his garden, stay for a while to get rested, etc. He had a big heart for sure. Within 30 days of opening it up, the garden was picked clean, his home vandalized, he had been assaulted and robbed, and his truck was stolen. I don't know what became of him after the newspaper article, but the place ended up for sale. And this happened during good times.
Not to be a pessimist but rather a realist, someone will come along pretty quickly during rough times and take it from you. Best bet is to keep it among family.

I agree. Your spot should be for family and very close friends only.

I think the votes are in and I am with the majority on this one. Mankind is not sugar and spice. Keep it for family and close friends and not to worry because in a true SHTF scenario you will have many, many, TOO many visitors. Frankly, you should only be telling people that you totally trust about its location and supplies because people talk.

Don't try to save the world. It's hard enough to save yourself.

Protect you and yours, have a tight circle of friends. Maybe, just maybe, you'll have enough left over to help those around you. But it's doubtful as there are those out there that want to take all you have and leave you with nothing.

How many boards are you going flog this on?

As I posted on 'the other board' squatters.

    Your land, your problem.

If you think you're going to sell this on here, think again.

Some one was sent out to the wood pile for wood and was shot in the leg and can't move, but you have no idea where it came from, Who goes out to get him?
He is going to bleed out while you discuss it.
In the comfort of your laptop you ponder the possibilities but in the throws of an event like this is not time for discussion.
Leadership has these and worse scenarios to deal with, and you can't wait for the event to make that decision.
A great many guidelines must be established and agreed to from the beginning, and ideally are unanimous.
Dissention is a big problem, especially if is it hidden.
If a person in the group had a dope addiction of some sort, this can cause dissention for the lack of compromise some might wish.
I have been a part of a successful commune, and the reason it worked is having strong Christian values every one agreed on. Part of it's ministry was getting kids off the street, and drugs and teaching them a trade and helping them move on in society.
It takes a strong leadership to maneuver several personalities and their issues especially now days.
Having some military background this might be a significant edge in your pursuit, if you can apply that discipline.

Even worse when you arrive to YOUR property to find it occupied by a group who refuse to let YOU in! :(

Not really sure about your choice of property... Boeing is a nuke target as is Fort Lewis in the event of war. If a civil uprising event occurs, your location will soon be overrun with those who have not prepared. Be prepared to defend your property and your family. That means, you will need a backhoe!

If you can't keep it occupied/guarded by folks you trust you have no "fallback location." You just have land you owe taxes on where somebody else lives.

Doesn't have to be remote land. Right in the city a friend had squatters living in her mother's house. They were good. She didn't notice them for months. They could slip out through a hole in the living room wall behind the sofa that put them in the car port. There were storage boxes out there so she never noticed either hole. If she wasn't a smoker and noticed an odd draft blowing her smoke around the squatter might still be living there.

Sounds like you've got yourself a nice little set-up, and I bet it represents a hell of an investment. For many so-called Preppers their only investment is a tricked-out AR-15, lots of ammo, some surplus tactical gear, and a case of MREs. maybe $1000, and their only long-term survival plan is to kill you and take what you have!

you posted elsewhere on another prepper site - gave my opinion there >>>

but will repeat that the distance from a city isn't always the prime factor - sometimes totally inconsequential - the fact that you position yourself between two major cities can be crucial - an interstate centerpoint between two cities will be SHTF refugee flooded when the two evac streams meet - branching out onto the lesser road systems thru out the area >>> and some of these skate boards have a 300 mile range on a tank - freaking refugees absolutely everywhere ....

I played with this idea a while back and what you end up with is a bunch of leeches trying to hang off yer backside and contribute little to nothing. Close friends and even closer family only is the way to go.

Reminds of some years back, a feller on the survival forums with his "tactical wheelbarrow. "Glockboy" or some such. That was his plan. Take what he needed from the real preppers, by force. Not a well thought out plan for longevity, to my mind. Eventually the other preppers will hunt him down and administer "frontier justice". o_O
