careful OP had an 89 thunderbird 4cyl. turbo coupe, guy changed plug wires on car, he used solid core wires instead of resistance core, car ran terrible!! backfires-stalls-no power, found he changed the wires for a hotter spark LOL he changed back to res. wires everything fine now. with all the electronics nowadays on vehicles you'd be surprised what little thing would cause you to be walking.

If you are worried about it buy a spare engine computer for your car. They will need your vin to program it for you before they send it. About $350.

people don't realize how electronics are interconnected in a big way. my example above illustrates this, originally all ignition wires were solid core (literally metal wire end to end) while the newer resistance ignition wires use carbon fiber to transport the spark energy. in the old cars when they had an AM radio you would hear snaps & pops every time a spark plug fired, the resistor wire was created to attenuate those snaps/pops you heard because the wires put out RFI energy. I don't know all the theory behind it but i'm sure some of the comms. monkeys on here know and explain it better than me. i do remember that the 1st radio transmitters were called "Spark Gap" transmitters ! the solid core wires dumped large amounts of RFI energy into the electronic ignition/computer systems and this was an 88-89 vehicle, now our vehicles are literally 10 times more complex (at least). will an EMP/CME cause problems on the road and at home, i said on another thread "I don't know" but i try to adhere to the KISS principle. YMMV.

i actually have a reel of solid core wire, a leftover "antique" in my shop.:whistle:

How solar emp effects the power grid and what to do about it.

This is kinda some pointy head stuff if you haven't already heard of reactive power, true power or powder factor before.
But this is probably one of the best videos I have ever seen trying to esplain these phenomenon.

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

That's a better explanation than what I got as a Control Room Operator in a combined cycle power plant.
