Actually, if you attach zinc to another metal, corrosion will attack the zinc first. It is why zinc is attached to boat motors.

It was quite a surprise the first time I discovered this. I had a bunch of pennies I used to back holes for the MIG welder. They all worked great until about 1987 when I got a new one in the mix. White fuzz and toxic smoke everywhere!

Using insulating tape to tidy up, is good, but I'd feel a bit more secure about the connection if some wire whipping were used.

 

A baseball would also be a damned good idea too.
