I had a good leg day today. I want to get my sleep schedule back on track. Tomorrow I might go to a gym for the first time in 5 years... Wish me luck!

I’m dialing things in for another BJJ tournament in early April, 208# Blue Belt Old Fart division. My plan is to smash but I could get smashed myself. Stay tuned.

@Meat I like how much of a planner you are! I bet you'll be more than ready by the time April comes around. Keep us updated! I'm trying to figure out some new goals for myself.

I’ll post a few of my favorite subs. I’m known a bit for smashing folks with top pressure but I’m trying to learn to be more well-rounded.

@Meat whoa! This sub looks super intense and technical too. I like the leg brace out to the side. Looks secure. Thanks for sharing!

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

I'm down 18 pounds from my long ago post.

No special diet really. No processed foods, no added sugar, keep grams of protein as high as grams of carbs. I drink 5 liters of water to flush clean. I take some herbal supplements but nothing exotic.

Last week I finished Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley

    Book overview
TRAGEDY AND HOPE shows the years 1895-1950 as a period of transition from the world dominated by Europe in the nineteenth century to the world of three blocs in the twentieth century. With clarity, perspective, and cumulative impact, Professor Quigley examines the nature of that transition through two world wars and a worldwide economic depression. As an interpretative historian, he tries to show each event in the full complexity of its historical context. The result is a unique work, notable in several ways. It gives a picture of the world in terms of the influence of different cultures and outlooks upon each other; it shows, more completely than in any similar work, the influence of science and technology on human life; and it explains, with unprecedented clarity, how the intricate financial and commercial patterns of the West prior to 1914 influenced the development of today’s world.

This week I'm reading Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell

    Description
In this fifth edition of Basic Economics, Thomas Sowell revises and updates his popular book on commonsense economics, bringing the world into clearer focus through a basic understanding of the fundamental economic principles and how they explain our lives. Drawing on lively examples from around the world and from centuries of history, Sowell explains basic economic principles for the general public in plain English.

Basic Economics, which has now been translated into six languages and has additional material online, remains true to its core principle: that the fundamental facts and principles of economics do not require jargon, graphs, or equations and can be learned in a relaxed and even enjoyable way.

@Zimmy Congratulations on taking those pounds off! Your lifestyle sounds so healthy and doable. I am also trying to figure out a more sustainable way to eat and live that isn't super restrictive. You give me hope with your results!
Thank you for sharing your book overviews. I added them both to my "want to read list" I love reading and learning more about that time period and I always enjoy brushing up on economics.
I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. Keep doing what you're doing because it sounds like it's working!

I've decided to switch to high volume training to see how it affects my mind and body.

    Yesterday was a Push/Pull workout!
    5 sets × 30 repetitions:
    • Dumbell chest press
    • Bent over db rows
    • Bicep curls
    • Triceps kickbacks
    • Weighted sit ups
    • Reverse crunches
My goal is to eventually be able to do all 30 repetitions without stopping. Right now I need some rest as I work up to 30.

My limiting factor is my wrist and grip especially during Bicep curls. I can curl with 15's, but the next set of weights that I have are 25's. I can do a few at that weight before my grip stops working it's a significant jump and I want to find some 20's.

I know that straps are an option, but I want to develop my grip strength so I'll keep working on it.

Today will be cardio and abs and I want to get 20,000 steps. Tomorrow will be a squat / lower body press workout.

I'm having fun with picking and choosing the specific exercises.

    How are you moving today?

Looks great. Light weight with more reps is best in my opinion. Your joints will thank you down the road.

Nasty indeed. I think my alt name for this move would be the crunchy pretzel. Lol.

This is very encouraging. I definitely want to protect my joints through this whole process. The higher reps are really good for building willpower and determination too.

I'm toast from yesterday's squats / lower body push day workout and I have nobody to blame, but myself becaue I chose my exercises

    5 sets of 30 repetitions:
    • Bodyweight hip thrusts (becaue I'm trying to connect to the form)
    • Goblet squats
    • Bulgarian split squats
    • DB Sumo squats
    • Reverse lunges
    • Heel lifted squats
    • Calf raises
This workout took me 2 hours. I've never done so many variations of squats at this volume before. The next time I hit legs, it will be a hinge / hip focused workout.

Today I rested and tomorrow I'm going to do overhead press exercises. I think I'll work in some handstand and inversions related exercises too!

I just finished my upper body with Overhead push day and it was intense in a good way!

    5x30
    • Military press
    • Hammer curls
    • Overhead tricep extensions
    • Lateral shoulder raises
    • Incline bench press
    • Db reverse Flys
    • Front raises
I'm still sore from Tuesday's leg day. Lol
Tomorrow I'll either do leg day hinge and some twisting core work, or I'll do a test day and save hinge day for Saturday.

What do you usually include in your own fitness tests? I want to measure my progress and I think I'll do this twice a month.

    So far I'm thinking:
    • Push ups
    • Situps
    • Bodyweight squats
That's all I got right now and it will probably be fore time. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Looks like a good routine. I’ve been doing dips for years. My triceps compare to Bugs Bunny’s or maybe Olive Oil’s.

Only 3 participants yesterday morning at class. Two blue belts (promoted same day) and the instructor. I was dumb enough to ask for the footage the instructor shot to show my Pops when I visit next time, he thinks I’m nuts. (Sad to say I was beaten up badly) My ability to accept pain though was passed down from Mom not Dad. She’d make fun of him in this area, “your Dad passes out and makes sounds like a seal!” Lol. In pretty much every other category he’s the best ever. Lol.

Thank you! I'm going to stick with this routine for a month before switching exercises, but I'm definitely going to add dips to my next set of exercises. Those Always feel hard!
