Marc Basnight Bridge, carries North Carolina Highway 12 across the Oregon Inlet between Bodie Island and Hatteras Island. It replaces the previous Herbert C. Bonner Bridge, which was completed in 1963 and has suffered from scour and deterioration problems for more than fifty years.

They left almost 1100 feet of the old bridge to serve as a fishing pier.

 

Made a lot of trips over the Bonner bridge.

 

I was talking with a fella at the marina by the bridge one year I was out there ,, and he said the currents are so rough going in and out under that bridge, that they would send divers down occasionally to check the bridges columns foundations,, and one year the diver said the foundation was completely washed out ,, said he could swim under the foundation. They get some pretty strong currents out that way. Especially during a hurricane,,

 

Turkeys gave me a sunset visit.

 

We have a flock that occasionally visits our office. One particular tom had it in for one of my coworkers.

 

I learned a technique for dealing with obnoxious birds you're not allowed to kill.
My boss had a goose that would attack every one passing the office, and I got tired of it so I would walk up the bird and let him attack my shoe I extended out to him, and as he did I grabbed him by the neck and held him till he stopped fighting and said we can keep doing this till you get the idea "I'm not afraid of you". It only took twice and he never bothered me again.

 

Roosters, ganders, and old Tom's absolutely detest getting blasted across the yard with a rapid firing paintball gun.

Both of out labs like to get under my desk while I'm working. Guess that's better than them trying to get on my lap.

A neighbor's big Tom Turkey once came over across the street, started teasing our GSD through the truck gate. One day the gate was left open. Tom started his game. My GSD ended it with extreme prejudice. Thanksgiving Dinner came early that year.

 

As a family we went to a local'ish range on Saturday. I Decided to have some fun and rent a 1911 to let the kids shoot it as my son was asking to shoot one. Here are their groups, 1st time ever either has handled a 1911. The red circle is my daughters and blue is my son's. He was aiming for the 8, she was aiming for the 'x'. I proceeded to shoot out the top 8 so I know ther eis nothing wrong with the sights as my son was trying to convince me of .

All in all we shot 400 rounds of 9mm, 200 rounds of 40S&W, 100 rounds 22lr and 50 rounds of 45. It was a great night with the family!

 

Very early Easter morning 2024. I just got home from a moving job and was doing a light-up for a friend who recently lost his Mother-in-law.

I am engraving on a knife today. I will need to be off for a few days soon so working a weekend.
