Too late for this week's events, but still a good move, since the barbarians only respect the power that grows out of the barrel of a gun. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Ben Gvir says 10,000 assault rifles purchased for civilian security teams National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced on Tuesday that his ministry is purchasing 10,000 rifles to arm civilian security teams, specifically those in towns close to Israel’s borders around the country, as well as mixed Jewish-Arab cities and West Bank settlements. The minister, who heads the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, said 4,000 assault rifles had already been acquired from an Israeli manufacturer and will be distributed immediately. Helmets and bulletproof vests have also been acquired and will be distributed along with the assault rifles. The step comes after some civilian security teams reported they had no weapons to fight off Hamas terrorists during Saturday’s devastating assault on southern Israel. In a statement to the press on Tuesday, Ben Gvir said the new weapons and equipment will be distributed to “hundreds of towns” that have civilian security teams, some of which are manned by civilians who also volunteer in the Border Police, the Israel Police’s gendarmerie unit.
The civilian security teams that use to protect the farms, villages and towns near the borders are largely a thing of the past, the members having grown old, and in some cases died! The younger generation has grown fat and lazy! Why drill and stand watch when the IDF is always there? Israel is going to have to become a nation of 'minutemen' again, ready to defend hearth and home with weapons near at hand! Israelis have been lulled into a false sense of peace! Let me be perfectly clear, Israelis will never have peace as long as their neighbors hate them and want them dead! This is a forever war!

The US supports Israel, and I have heard this in multiple places from people whose head would explode if we did this, yet they applaud it elsewhere. Sure would love me a free assault weapon to help me defend the coastline!
Also read about a man and his wife, both 30-year-old IDF officers and parents of 10-month-old twins, they hid their babies and took up arms to defend their home. They killed seven Hamas terrorists, but sadly both died in the firefight. Their twins are safe!
Now I see this as a problem taking on terrorists in a fire fight 2 civilians against some unknown number. There are so many here including my self, that are not trained nor have a group to trust in the event of a terrorist attack. I have done air soft fire fights and loose miserably every time. As I age it get's worse. I know people that talk a good game, but they are not organized. How will the farmers know who is the enemy? How will we know?
The bad guys will be the ones shooting at you !! Just kidding with you a little here. That is a good question,, but I don't believe it'll be to hard to see the enemy once it gets started .
A rifle for every Jewish household, and 9mm pistols to go around. Frankly I was shocked to discover how few Jews had access to firearms in Israel. Given their HISTORY as a people, and their current national situation, that strikes me as being INSANE. Their enemies should know that any attack will be met with well-armed civilians as well as the IDF. I thought Irael had well-nigh universal military service- surely most adults would know how to use arms and basic military tactics.. Has it been so long since Kinky Friedman sang "They Don't Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore"?
