    Right now - nothing....but

An antiviral called tecovirimat (TPOXX), is approved to treat smallpox and smallpox is a related disease to Alaskapox, the parallel is obvious.

Any disease that has 'jumped' to humans is a bad thing.

I wonder if the smallpox vaccine will work against this like it does against monkeypox and cowpox?

They are all related, I would surprised if the vax did not - OTOH, mRNA makes big $$$$, so expect to have Big Pharma say $omething new is needed.

Obviously Biden won't curtail travel and it will spread.

That population may have just found it's peak usefulness.
Sounds like covid. Mild symptoms unless you're a select group. A few people die and all of a sudden everyone is in favor of suspension of rights and we're moving full speed towards communism.
I wonder how many were vaccinated against small pox. Also seems like it doesn't spread person to person very well or it would have spread very rapidly among people giving the guy treatment for the 6 weeks they just assumed he was having cancer drug side effects.

I think he's still in that basement, probably in a freezer.

The man had a weakened immune system because of cancer treatment, which probably contributed to the severity of his illness, officials noted.

Experts say that the illness is often mild and that infections remain rare in humans, as the virus is primarily found in small mammal populations throughout Alaska.

“Six of the seven cases have been mild and self-limited, so the patient didn’t even need to get any supportive care from a health care provider,” said Dr. Joe McLaughlin, state epidemiologist and chief of the Alaska Section of Epidemiology at the Alaska Department of Health.

Read the article carefully, the mans immune system was compromised (basically non existent) because of cancer treatment, most likely with radiation. He was as weak as a human could be, i see no need for alarm. Stay healthy and you are probably strong enough to fight it off.....

I find it curious how it didn't spread to everyone who came in contact with the guy who had it.

It may have but being healthy they are just carriers

That person got sick late last year we would know by now if it was spreading.
