seems this happened in Georgia??? but is this the future for us all??? Georgia Credit Union Upsets Some Customers - Civil Deadline
Not likely to go over well in Georgia, or most other places. That is why I use cash for transactions of that nature, and no I don't think that they will abolish cash. Hard to bribe a Congressman, Senator or President without it, and everything else leaves a paper trail!
Something like 40% of people are dumb enough to admit over the phone to a stranger that they own a gun. I wouldn't want to be alienating around half the customer base. I think if they double down on this stupidity about a year from now we will hear about this credit union going under.
Be wary of "fraud Detection Alerts" as a back door to these type of policies. Right after New Years I was taking advantage of sales and tried making some purchases of some silencers and gun parts from a few different companies. After the first one the others were declined having trigger a "Fraud Detection Alert". I got the automated calls and verified the purchases and tried again to make the purchases only to be declined yet again. This prompted a call to my Credit Union where i gave them the choice of allowing me to spend MY money any way I damn well please or I would be changing to a different one within the hour. Problem solved.
Yeah, this is simply bad business and they will be forced out of it and their employees onto the unemployment line. I cannot imagine anyone putting up with this nonsense. What would be next they refuse to allow you to purchase, ice cream? I wouldn't worry too much about this because these companies won't be around long.
Yeah, well it's backed by major banks, and visa/mc/amex themselves. When everything is ca$h free, that pretty much means you are screwed. Some things that have become cash free recently: High school games (tickets and refreshments) College and Pro games Ski Hills
@CraftyMofo I see your concern; however, I look at this just like the major news media agencies. All of them, every damn one of them, are woke, fake news, propaganda outlets except one - FOX - and they are wiping the floor with all the other news outlets. So, if VISA, Mastercharge and etc. think they can dictate what we buy, I would bet there will be a huge growth in the one that doesn't - meaning - a huge loss in revenue for those that do and the bottom line will win and force the change back. But, you might be right, I certainly hope not.
I see the GCU also not allowing for the purchase of sex related items or services in addition to firearms, knives etc. Looks more like a kooky religious nut than anything else. I mean the wokies would not back a ban on dildo sales !
Is that a gun you're holding, Lindsay??? or are you just happy to see me?? This Guy Is Replacing Guns With Dildos In Photos Of Republican Politicians
Feds Asked Banks to Search Americans' Records for Gun Retailers The Treasury Department, on behalf of federal law enforcement after January 6, 2021, asked banks to snoop through customers’ transactions for signs of “extremism,” such as purchases of “small arms” or from gun retailers Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shop, or Cabela’s, according to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). Jordan revealed the secret requests on Thursday in a letter to the former Director of the Treasury Department’s office of Stakeholder Integration and Engagement in the Strategic Operations Division of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Noah Bishoff. Jordan’s letter, which asked Bishoff to appear for a transcribed interview, said, “This kind of pervasive financial surveillance, carried out in coordination with and at the request of federal law enforcement, into Americans’ private transactions is alarming and raises serious doubts about FinCEN’s respect for fundamental civil liberties.” Display of religious books for sale at Walgreens store, Queens, New York. (Lindsey Nicholson/UCG/Universal Images Group via Getty) The secret requests were found as part of Judiciary Committee and Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government oversight on federal law enforcement’s receipt of information about American citizens without legal process. Jordan said in the letter that the Committee and Select Subcommittee obtained documents indicating that following January 6, 2021, FinCEN distributed materials to banks that outlined the “Typologies” of “various persons of interest” and provided financial institutions with suggested search terms and Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) for identifying transactions on behalf of federal law enforcement. Jordan said the materials included a document recommending the use of generic terms like “TRUMP” and “MAGA” to “Search Zelle payment messages,” as well as a “prior FinCEN analysis” of “Lone Actor/Homegrown Violent Extremism Indicators.” According to the analysis, FinCEN warned financial institutions of “extremism” indicators that include “Transportation charges, such as bus tickets, rental cars, or plane tickets. for travel to areas with no apparent purpose,” or the purchase of books — including religious texts — and subscriptions to other media containing extremist views. “In other words, FinCEN urged large financial institutions to comb through the private transactions of their customers for suspicious charges on the basis of protected political and religious expression,” Jordan wrote. Jordan said FinCEN also distributed slides prepared by one bank explaining how other banks could use MCCs to detect customers whose transactions may reflect “potential active shooters, [and] who may include dangerous International Terrorists / Domestic Terrorists / Homegrown Violent Extremists (‘Lone Wolves’).” The slides instructed banks to look for transactions using certain MCC codes such as “3484: Small Arms,” “5091: Sporting and Recreational Goods and Supplies,” and the keywords “Cabela’s,” and “Dick’s Sporting Goods,” among several others, he said. The letter included a slide listing a number of gun retailers. (Keith Srakocic/AP) “Despite these transactions having no apparent criminal nexus and, in fact, relate to Americans exercising their Second Amendment rights— FinCEN seems to have adopted a characterization of these Americans as potential threat actors,” he said. In an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity Jordan called it “financial surveillance.” “In the last year saw we’ve exposed the censorship, where you had big government, big tech, big media, big academia working to censor Americans,” Jordan said. “Now we have financial surveillance, where it’s big government working with big banks, big corporations to surveil — to spy on Americans.” “And so it was big banks, looking and searching private transactions using key terms at the suggestion of the federal government to find out what you’re buying, what you’re spending your money on,” he added. “Scary stuff, all, it looks like, without any warrant, without any legal process.” “It’s scary stuff. It’s financial surveillance of the American people,” he stated.
Use cash whenever possible. Also, a good excuse to visit your local Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop. Also, wear big dark glasses and a surgical mask because cameras are everywhere, and when they ask your age lie (just a little). Park in the parking lot next door to Cabela's and walk over, might even want to obscure your license plate. Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you!
