Yeah, most folks don't understand that! Dry cold can be bad, but wet cold will kill you...Hell, wet cool will kill you! The same with hot dry and hot wet, here in the South it's wet regardless of the season or temp! My feet have been cold since Nov/Dec and won't warm up til March/April!
I'm told that it's hot in Hell! I hope and pray that it's hot and dry!

It started snowing last night and it's still coming down! We have 3" now and are looking at a couple more before it's done! That might not sound like a lot of snow to some of y'all, but this is Dixie, and 3" has the same effect down here as 3' does to y'all. Nobody is on the roads! I'm taking a snow day today and so has everyone else, even the fools with 4x4s are staying at home! Glad that I was able to finish my winter storm preps yesterday afternoon, I had to get a 100# propane tank refilled at Tractor Supply...they were the last supplier within 60 miles. Slept in, had breakfast, and I'm enjoying my 2nd cup of coffee...it's gonna be a good day, unless the power goes off!

I've heard of some town in Germany, named Hell and occasionally it freezes over!

In Michigan we have both Hell and Paradise. Currently they are both frozen.

I was in the Gulf for the winter of 89, Sleet a foot high on the decks.
Natural gas froze up, Generators down, Diesel generators came on line and BOOM fuel jelled up in the filters.
Had to break the ice in the fresh water tanks in order to flush toilets.
Helicopters could fly from the beach but we had to hot fuel these baby's as they can't start in 35 mph wind gusts.
Get on a boat in 8/12ft seas, Ha.
    Been there done that.

I'm going to burn more firewood during this 5 day snap than i did in the entire month of december.

We get snow on the mountain here (Mauna Kea) I haven't checked though. I can usually see it from my road.

I guess the snow was last month:

@Alanaana I stayed with my sister for my first year there (she was a Navy supply corps officer, working down at Big Navy, and had a house on Nimitz Hill). Then got my own place in Magnilao for a few years. Left for a year, to go work for the Navy in Adak, Alaska, then came back and got an apartment in Agana Heights. Got there in early 92, left there in early 2000.

Loved the people, but it was too far from home, and my folks were getting older, so I wanted to be able to be closer to them. Good thing, too, as I had more chance to visit with my dad, who passed away in October 2001.

The snow has FINALLY stopped, and we have 6-8 inches! It's not going anywhere as the temp. is +16 and dropping! Oh, the humidity is 78%! It should get above freezing in a couple of days, and then we have another shot at some snow, ice or freezing rain! After that the temps. go up to the 50–60-degree range with lows in the 40s!

Dixie isn't prepared for snow and drives sure as hell don't know how to drive in it
I remember 89 real well we had hurricane Hugo (Aug) here in coastal SC we had 5 ' of sea water in the house storm serge was 17' measured at the town boat landing. Had been working on rebuilding the house. We were renting an apartment had my 2 boys with me and it started snowing (Dec) Before I knew it there was 15" on the ground. Left the house and started driving back to the apartment. No plows in dixie. All of a sudden the truck was spinning down the road told the boys hold on. Made it back to the apartment. Most snow we ever had in my 40 + years here. Boys loved playing in it our golden retrieve at first didn't know what to make of this white cold stuff didn't take her long and she was right there with the pos playing in it.

Oh, we have plenty of gators here in north Alabama, especially in the Tennessee River Valley, years ago the Feds transplanted alligators to the Wheeler Wildlife Area (that was back when they were endangered), and every few years they find one in a pond, lake or stream.

This artic cold is going to kill a lot of things, up to and including people! We have some fruit trees that were trying to come back after the last big freeze, they might not make it after this. Hopefully, the bugs will take a hard hit from this winter and we will have some relief next summer.
