Hold onto your hats boys and girls, the U.S. armed forces is about to do something they haven't done since 1941, and it's gonna be epic, and it's gonna break a few eggs and piss off a bunch of politicians and states!
Here is the short version of this! A Conference of Admirals is a Major deployment of ALL U.S Armed forces Flag Officers, mostly Naval and Marine officers, the purpose is a strategic take over of the U.S Industrial base, to include armaments, steel, and other needed equipment, and most importantly, ship building! We're about to see a return of the United States to a FULL WAR FOOTING in military production, and this particular meeting is to sort out the lack of ship building capacity we currently have! Bottom line is, the Military will take over control of ALL domestic production of everything, so the auto makers and commercial aircraft companies will experience massive shortages of all materials while this is happening!
The Biggy is the ship yards! The U.S. has hundreds of yards that sit idle, the owners would rather keep them closed then to take on projects at below what they believe, and the unions demand as reasonable, this has been happening since the mid 50's and the U.S. Navy and Marines have suffered mightily! This cannot stand, and as we have just seen in the Red Sea, the Navy is woefully under equipped to handle even a small opposing force! It is said that China now outnumbers the U.S Navy by more then 200 hulls, that South Korea is capable of building 100 ships for every ONE the U.S Navy is able to build, and they can do it under budget and on time, something the U.S. has not be able to do since 1946! The U.S. Coast Guard was to receive it's first Ice Breaker Polar Security Cutter this year, that has been pushed back at least a year, and is already over budget by several million, this cannot be allowed to continue, ,so drastic measures must be taken, and here is where the Conference takes things in hand!
TO start, the ship yards will be taken over by the Navy, the steel yards will be taken over, and the rest will be put in war time production scheduling, to supersede all other production! This Conference does have the authority to side step congress and even the POTUS as it's a National Security concern, and so, it begins!
This event will see ALL flag rank officers recalled to Washington D.C. they are to drop everything no matter the risks or responsibilities, and take their seat to sort out these major issues and get things moving RIGHT THE FUCK NOW! States will soon receive the first warning notices of Military takeover, and employment announcements and apprenticeships will be following, the shipyards will be seized and put back into service, and the U.S Steel production will be taken over and all production switched over to National Strategic Defense! Congress will wine and bitch, the states will balk and decry this take over, but they cannot block any of it,, and will be forced to comply!

Hold onto your hats Fellers and Fellettes, things are about to get REAL, Real Quick!

Sounds like they have determined that carriers may have liabilities due to new technologies and need to either diversify or build large amounts of a specific or even new class of some sort. It also sounds like it is very urgent and likely die to China and/or Russia intentions to test a weakened/DEI incompetent US military.

Could also be an intent by our Socialist leaning leadership to follow Mussolini and Hitler (Marx devotees) by provoking a threat that results in Nationalism in order to empower an effective dictatorship.

Time to reuse your aluminum foil like grandma used to do and for the same reason - resource availability, and not just aluminum. Top off your ammo, spare parts, cleaning supplies, motor oils. etc., because if this is accurate those things will be hard to come by.

I guess this is in reference to Taiwan and an invasion by mainland China... This of course would make Putin pee himself with glee as it would definitely tie up American military and its manufacturing leaving only Western Europe to support the Ukraine which, of course, they won't... so with not much effort Ukraine would fall and if indeed America is tied up elsewhere the question would be if Putin stops there or scoops up Moldova also. In this case, I believe he would. I mean, why not? Because West Europe doesn't have the backbone to stop him. Oh, Poland and the UK will make a fuss, that is certain but go to war? I think not. They will do exactly what they did when Ukraine was invaded, "it used to belong to Russia, aren't they Russian?", exactly what they said when Hitler took Austrian then Sudetenland. "Oh, but they are German!"

I for one would be happy if the military did take over shipbuilding. Why? Because our ship building capabilities have suffered for many a decade. I would be interested to see how the Unions are handled in this and I would hope this would bring back our steel manufacturing capabilities also. However, this could increase the chance of conflict - why wait for the US Navy to get stronger - or it could also decrease the chance as it might be taken as a sign of America's determination, intent and resolve. I don't know.

As for China, it has to be a tough call because once they open hostilities, they are cutting their own economic throat. Western Europe and, of course, America will boycott them, and Russia and India's population do not have the disposable income to replace the loss. Furthermore, by firing on the US Navy, they are basically starting WW3 as I would think NATO would get involved...although I am not 100% sure about this especially given the snowflakes that are in charge now of those West European countries. Besides, I would imagine Russia would tie down Western Europe while China and the US clash. Also, China cannot trust Russia as I am sure they are well aware. Russia's history speaks for itself. In truth, China would be playing into Russia's hand by attacking the US. I am sure they know this.

EDIT: For what it's worth, back in the late 90's while working at US European Command (USECOM) in the J2 section, I had a huge debate with my office mate. He was a carrier fighter pilot and I told him then the days of the carrier were numbered due to computers, unmanned aircraft (now drones) and anti-ship missiles. That day has come. Yes, there will always be a need for carriers, but they are a double-edge sword because not only the cost and vulnerability, but the cost of carrier group needed to protect them. It comes down to bang for buck. For example, an Abrahm tank costing $24M against the Javelin missile system costing $250K. The day of the Super-duper carrier is over and is replaced by millions of missiles and drones. Submarines are the better bet instead of carriers.

How serious is this you might be asking, Well, short answer is; My 86 year old Father has been recalled to the Bureau of Ships, Construction and Repairs, he already has a Nurse and Yeoman assigned to his staff and is to report to Newport News Virginia by the end of month, THAT SERIOUS! Dad is one of the few living legends of Naval Surface Warfare to have actually applied his deadly craft at sea for real, so the Navy sees great value in what he still knows and that means ship design and armaments, and equipment, and how to go about using all that to best effect! Since he retired in 2014, the Navy has recalled him several times for his experience and expertise, mostly to advise on what to do correctly starting out, or more recently, to fix the Navy's royal fuckup's, namely the DDX program and the Littoral Frigate disasters, to which he has been threatened with a Star on his tabs, and the promotion to go with it!
Dad has been screaming at the top of his lungs since the 70's to stop messing about with high tech weapons and electronics, and to go back to Gun Armed Warships, as Dad continuedly preaches, you cant jamb or shoot down a big dumb bullet heading your way, you ether armor against it, or you get the hell out of it's way, or not be where the shootin is in the first place! The U.S. Military has been suffering what modern experts call, "Power Creep" in that we keep trying to use the latest and greatest in high tech, when what we need, what wins fights, is Guns, BIG God Damn GUNS, and the power to get stuck in and stay stuck in for the time needed to win that fight! I have no idea what they are going to expect of Dad, but I do know he pulls no punches and will tell them exactly how to do it the right way, he will insist on training the first commanders to use the new tools, and the Navy knows full well, Dad doesn't suffer fools or politicians, or anyone else that stands in the way! Dad might be an Old Man be any standard you care to look at, BUT, like the old saying goes, be very wary of the Old Man playing at a young mans game, the old man didn't get to be old by being soft!

My grandfather and Uncle retired from the Newport News Shipyard back in the late 70s. I listened to a few of his stories of how the ships were built .

If the Admirals and Generals take control,, that will be a good thing ,, because these dipshits in office now don't seem to give a crap about our survival.

Thanks for the heads up .

And how many years to tool up to build the steel mills before anything else (other than spending worthless fiat) gets accomplished? Not to mention the extremely dangerous precedence of nationalizing businesses "for the greater good."

And let's not forget the freakshow puppets Obummer installed in the Fag...err Flag ranks. I don't see anything good coming of this.

ETA: The only mention I see is on a civilian maritime site suggesting calling for a Conference. It was not even hinted at during the Chief of Naval Ops' recent meeting. Also, the Chinese have a 200:1 hull-building advantage over the US. That's more significant (at least to me) than having 200 more ships.

Ok so someone thinks they should. I doubt it will happen. This administration will not go along with it. Congress will also not go along with it.
