I'm very pro-diversity hiring. Race, national origin, sex, even religion can be irrelevant.

The important thing is moral and technical compatibility.

I'd trade thousands of shitty Americans I've met for a hard working and dedicated compatriot regardless of trivialities.

The criteria for hiring someone to do a job should be you hire the best qualified regardless of any other factors. Diversity hiring is nothing more than filling some BS quota devised by liberals for people who aren't qualified.

Correction: ageist sexist and racist...but there's nothing wrong with that....apparently in some places.

He's not. Diversity is hard in the trades. I rarely get very diverse applicants with the required skills.

Let me break it down in my shop. A middle aged Chinese male, a middle age Mexican male, an old white Yankee male, a white Alaskan male, a young Mexican American male Texan, a (maybe) gay young white male Texan, and two old white Texan males. I recently lost a young white male and a young black lesbian (Both Texans) to normal turnover in this boom market.

We're diverse as fuck, I guess.

I was once told by Johnson Controls they would hire me in a skinny minute if I was black. This was in 1989 in Charlotte, NC.

Were they qualified for the job or did you hire them because of their ethnicity and not qualifications ---I suspect the former, therefore diversity had no bearing on hiring. Correct me if I am wrong.

My brother in law worked for Pratt Whitney aircraft engine development in Hartford CN as parts procure . They hired a black engineer (diversity mandate) who was worthless. My brother in law said this guy made no bones about it --they can't fire me because I'm black.

Ah yes, I see how the great replacement is working, based upon an anecdotal datum point of 1, which proves the broad generalisation that DEI is out of control and bad for society, because white dudes are not as privileged as they once were back in the good old days.

As usual you miss the point-- hiring should be based on qualifications not skin color, religion or anything else. If you are not qualified for the job and are want the job it is your responsibility to upgrade your skill level making you qualified. Typical liberal response blaming white privilege (whatever the hell that is).

Hired on quals. I don't have a "quota" where I work and if we did the nursing, janitorial and cafeteria personnel would easily pass that.

I don't have time to OJT a bunch of kids. However, a state job does draw a different set of applicants for the trades than I had in the power Gen and food processing industries.

If you diversify hard enough it eventually become standardization.

If I had the responsibility of hiring people, I would start them as janitors to see just how they work based on their performance I would then promote, move, or remove, as their work ethic and true skills re revealed.
Regardless of the station one is placed, if they have a good work ethic they will do a good job with what ever they are given to do glorious or not. Secondly sometimes the role one fanaticizes for then self is not necessarily what they are actually skilled at.
thirdly and more importantly, one that has come up through the ranks can make more informed decisions as to those they had previously worked with, should they actually come up through the ranks.
All too often people get hired in some top position having no experience in the lower positions and abuse them.
