Federal officials order grounding of Boeing 737-9 Max jetliners after a plane suffers a blowout midair (alaskasnewssource.com) Scary as hell quote: "The aircraft involved rolled off the assembly line and received its certification two months ago, according to online FAA records. The plane had been on 145 flights since entering commercial service on Nov. 11, said FlightRadar24, another tracking service. The flight from Portland was the aircraft’s third of the day." Photos at link show a window and full panel blew out - as in looking at the city lights below blew out. Two pax were in that row - and both lived as they were wearing their seat belts. One pax had their shirt ripped off. Happened a 16K feet AGL.
Also saw where some nearby passengers lost some items out the hole, like ear buds, and even phones. Now to start the rumor, that the FAA believes it's highly likely, that some idiot who didn't have their phone in "airplane mode" caused this to happen. You people have been warned.....and now look at what's happened!!
Talking to a few pilots , they say outsourcing offshore work is one of the problems .. Another is the strong hold of the union S
Somebody blew it. 16 k altitude, air pressure outside is about 9 psi. at 39,000 it is less than 3. They usually keep air pressure in the cabin at about a constant 11 to 12 psi. Thus a 1 foot square area of a window would have to resist a force of about 450 lbs and at 39000 about 1300 pounds. Failing at 39000 feet due to metal or window faults should be more likely as it is resisting about 3 times the force and the planes are designed, after the early Comet disasters, to take the bending forces applied due to pressure changes many thousands of times. Since it doesn't appear to be a design error, in a new plane that only leaves a construction error. Not good. Boeing bought McDonald Douglas and the new leadership and change from an engineer dominated company to modern corporate company has nearly destroyed it. They are having problems building refueling aircraft on a design so old, 767 certified in 1982, that it was about to close down due to lack of civilian orders. That was in 2001, still working on bugs on it in 2024. Latest from Fox, video while in flight. WATCH: Alaska Airlines passenger captures horrifying moments after plane part blew off mid-air
I used to have to fly to customers' sites as part of my job. Hated it. Glad I'm retired now. I drive everywhere. I know statistically flying is supposed to be safer, but when flying, I'm not in control. Those who are aren't going to care as much about me as I am. Those who build and maintain the aircraft aren't either. I know the same could be said of a land based motor vehicle when it comes to construction and maintenance, but cars and trucks are far less complex than any aircraft. Just need to drive something that can stand up to most collisions caused by drunks and stoners and keep my eyes open for idiots.
Old story from 70's about one of car companies opening a plant in south. For tax breaks they agreed to hire the "disadvantaged" etc. One guy missed work at least one day a week. After repeated warnings etc, the union rep and hr had a combined meeting with him to try to iron out the problem. After about 20 min they quit the bs and just asked him why he missed one day a week. His answer was that he worked 4 days a week because he couldn't live on 3 days pay. Now they build airplanes.
Boeing's biggest issue is it's corruption from within, that and a MAJOR scham involving senior FAA officials signing off on shit and issuing certs for things Assuming they would meet standards, with out actually being tested! Look at the MAX-8 and "Dreamliner" debacle! Boeing has grown too fat, and has let the corporate executives run amook, Bill would be rolling over in his grave! They found the "Door" outside North Planes off Highway 6 toward the coast, it was pretty close to the main highway, so that was fortunate!
And, my friends and family give me stick for refusing to get on another airplane...LOL! No thank you!
This is why I'm my own Pilot, I simply do not trust anyone else or any ones equipment, especially seeing how they run things ragged and expect things to hold up! I fly my self where ever I want to go, on my own time, no TSA or other bullshit, I carry my firearms with out issue and I don't ever really have to answer to anyone for anything! If we do need to fly overseas, I know the tricks to getting Private Business jet flights, and I trust those FAR more then the airlines! As to the expenses, it's all in how you justify your travel plans, and some can be a tax write-off!
I have thought of taking up flying as a lot of my fear of it is simply being in complete control of someone else. Plus, when I started to fly, and I flew constantly, one would never see another aircraft in the sky. Now, I can't get on plane without seeing at least one or two. Anyway, I am not going to purchase anything or make any serious decisions until after this presidential election for the simple reason of I don't see a good ending no matter what happens.
You are NOT wrong. The fuselage (plane body) is actually built by Spirit AeroSystems (where I work) here in Wichita, Ks. We put that door plug in and it is removed by Boeing once the unit is delivered to them. BUT, back on the quality of employees - my manager was told, "You WILL hire diverse, whether they are qualified or NOT" and this is EXACTLY what Spirit has done. There are SOME good younger hires but for the most part, the old farts are the ones delivering units while the youngsters play on their phone or just don't come to work and nothing happens to them because heaven forbid someone's feelings might get hurt! I do NOT LIKE to fly AT all. If you all saw some of the units sent to our MRO (which is where I work) by the customers, you would NOT either!! That and the airlines' customer service SUCKS. They could give a shit whether they lose your luggage or you miss your connecting flight.
DEI is ruining industry in general and aviation in particular. Hiring and firing based on demographics and not competence and performance is a disaster waiting to happen.
