If the rear end was removable it would be more useable. Hauling dirt or whatever and then simply tilting the thing to dump it. As is, you'd have to tip it completely over in order to empty it. I'm honestly surprised you did not incorporate this simple feature. As well because it has only 2 wheels for support, every time you stop you have to fiddle with it so it doesn't fall over, which in and of itself makes it somewhat cumbersome to use, and that's when it's empty ffs. IOW, it's not really accommodating for those who are disabled in any way. A 3D printed version looks like what you really need. That and different styles to suit the user preferences, like size etc. Other than that it's a grand scheme.

Hand carts make of wood or metal can be repaired, whereas plastic just breaks...

Yes, but the tradeoff is weight. They make some pretty damn strong "plastics" these days. ;)

Still someday it is gonna die, and that will be that, but with wood or metal you can just remove the fitting and build another.

Thank you for sharing this detailed and historical information about the Mormon Handcart Companies and the accompanying Wagon Companies. It's fascinating to learn about the organizational structure, the division of responsibilities, and the strategic measures taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the pioneers during their migration.

Pretty sure I can build a better one from scrap for$100 or less!

Would that be a cart with wheels of bespoke spokes?

Most likely bicycle tires to keep the cost down.

The LDS folks have multiple books on the handcart companies. Not all failed. Just the ones that left too late in the season.
