That is why I own and prefer older vehicles and tractors! NO sensor is gonna shut me down without warning, leaving me high-and dry! Older vehicles are more forgiving of lousy fuel and less than perfect operating conditions.

ALL companies are doing this, if they want to stay in business! I, myself, used to work for Rural King, a farm supply store, but they reduced most employees to part-time and got rid of health insurance. Now, I'm 65, and don't need the insurance, but I couldn't make it on 20-25 hours per week! Luckly, I chanced upon a full-time job at Belk, which is a large chain of clothing stores located in the Southeast. I liked Rural King, loved the people and still shop there, but Belk is great...NO popcorn, NO animals and the A/C works!

You were lucky, WB. It amazes me because it has nothing to do with work performance, loyalty, etc. My wife, being a naive immigrant, still really doesn't understand it, and wants to believe the company will do the right thing, not treat her like this and she loves working there with her team which she has become completely loyal to but she is starting to catch on. Strangely, you would not see companies treating their employees like this is other first world countries - well - at least all the ones I have been to.

I do have a theory, but it is sort of whacko... First, I think their conduct is due to an overabundance of labor. Yes, I know, not long-ago companies were screaming for workers, increased minimum wages, etc. and they did this because it was completely true...for a while after covid. Now, it is back to normal and if you don't like it then don't let the door hit you in the a$$ because there is someone waiting to take your place which is true because most entry level and unskilled labor has been moved outside the country except ...what if there wasn't anyone to take your place. What if Generation Z wouldn't do it?

Now, what if those illiterate 12+ million illegals crossing the border right now are to ensure companies have a low-income work force, an overabundance of labor, in the future while providing a good political base for the Democratic party because people are starting to see through their party lies? And, if they can't live on those part-time wages, no problem since the government, ruled by Democrats, will provide Food Stamps and Welfare and make up the difference...as long as the donations keep flowing.

Anyway, I think these are the two major parts of the reason the border is wide open which I admit has puzzled me to the point of insanity trying to figure out why they would do such a thing.

In many countries, especially European, it is impossible to fire an employee, for almost any reason. I don't see Generation Z stepping up, not without a major attitude adjustment. I also don't see illiterate illegals taking over all of the jobs, as all but the simplest and most menial of jobs requires knowledge of English (written and spoken), computers, and such. The national, state, and local governments could try the "bread and circus" route, but that will only last as long as the money.

My Father always said that John Deere tractors, especially the 3020 and 4020, were too damn good, because with rebuild kits you could keep them running forever! Now, the tractors are full of sensors waiting to go bad, the engines look like they belong in a lawnmower, you can't work on them yourself, and require DEF in order to run! I've got a 50-year-old John Deere tractor, and I am acquiring the engine rebuild kit and additional parts to keep it running for another 50 years! Don't tell me that I have to buy something NEW because there is no alternative...as I keep telling folks, "I got me a plan for that"!

This country has been exporting factories and jobs for years blue collar workers. Now white collar jobs are on the chopping block IT, engineering, medical---we train them in our universities they go home places like India.

Also, a lot of engineers and doctors never go home to their home countries but remain here. They will do the same as workers from south of the border do, work here, send money home to support family, and then retire to their home countries to live like kings. But AI is on the horizon and that will be the nail in the coffin for white collar jobs too. There is NO job that AI or a robot can't do better, faster and cheaper than a human! If you can think of one let me know!

In this age of instant communication IT and engineers work for far less in India but still can live well. My nephew worked IT for FedEx and saw the handwriting on the wall--- they were outsourcing their IT to India . My nephew quit and went to work in IT at another company It is happening

I have been telling kids for years now, take courage and learn many jobs because things are becoming less stable.
We now live in a throw away society, more so than in the past.
In my day most things could be fixed, but that is changing to the degree that one's phone barely lasts the warrantee period.

My Nephew is a Chemical Engineer that works for an engineering firm that specializes in nuclear power plants. He is aware that his job could be outsourced to India or China, and that AI is looming on the horizon. He is 40 and plans to work as long as he can, hopefully to retirement. He works remotely from home, and I have to admire his discipline, as I'm sure that I couldn't do it! Currently, he is making good money, and his wife is a nurse with the VA, so she's making good money too! They are saving money and hopefully will never have financial worries.
