When I was a kid 70 years ago this kind of thing was around as well, and we had to be cautions a to the candy we got on Halloween as well. People are no less evil than they have ever been, and it has always been necessary to teach your children to be cautious.
Some years ago at my kids private school some SOB put a nail hammered from th back side of the slide. Found it before some kid got really hurt. There are some sick bastards in this world who need to spend eternity with satan.
When I was a kid, late 70's early 80's at Halloween time my parents had several bags of candy, mostly those bite sized candy bars. I happened to bite into one to find a needle. We found a whole in the bag and wrapper for the bar. Called the police and they took the lot of candy we had and called the store to pull everything from the shelves. I managed to get the one bar that was spiked with the needle, could only imagine what would have happened if I crammed the entire bar in my mouth at once.
It appears that we can't ban evil so let's ban everything else. We need to ban slides, nails, razorblades, candy, Halloween and hammers. It's for the children.

When I was a kid...Halloween , and the practice of 'trick or treat' for lollies (aka candy) was not a thing. Unfortunately it is one of those rather silly and pointless bits of American culture which annually fills municipal landfills with not so cheap rubbish imported from PRC. Yeah, just taking the logical progression of people doing bad stuff with inanimate objects and relating it to our society today. Before too long we won't have steak knives in the kitchen 'cause homi and sui cides. ICE engines because they pollute the environment and shorten peoples lives . cars and trucks because they can be used as battering rams. the list goes on and on. We are pretty much screwed as a society because we don't take anyone out behind the sauna (or woodshed) or deep into the bayou anymore.
Because it's come up in thread drift, Halloween and the following day, All Hallows or All Saints Day are Christian Holidays. Halloween features a symbolic cleansing of evil spirits prior to the holiest day that does not honor Christ. The spooky stuff on Halloween started as people dressing up and wandering the village/city/whatever to scare away evil spirits. It evolved into "trick or treating" and and commercialized candy gluttony and cheap plastic costumes from there. Out of ignorance many think it's about "devil worship". Not surprising as we culturally only see a thin veneer and miss the substance underneath.
