Unlike a few members here, I don't have next years firewood already drying.
But this week I got my 22 facecords under covers for this winter. My back and feet are glad that this late summer task is over.
I did miss the opening of small game season, but happy wife, happy life.
So bring it old man winter.

Usually not much of a winter here until maybe January. Nice job splitting all that by hand are we?

Still working on finishing up MUST do and get done things from summer. But do have the firewood ready from last year for this year and a mountain of unsplit that I have been building. After I get the concrete poured next week and finish up some pond tweaking. I will get on the Get Ready for Winter Rituals.

No way. I buy mine cut and split. Local fraternal organization gets a donation from tree service, they cut and split, I help them unload it at the farmstead and then it's up to me to sort and stack.

It would take me several weeks to cut and split. And it's not cost effective. I've got other things to do around the farm. I do process trees on the farm myself but not on this scale. Those go into the sheds for a couple year drying process and are used if we run out.

I love cutting and splitting firewood. (I’m sick) I’m ready to roll although I did get a new high-efficiency gas furnace. (Shame)

That's a lot of firewood and even just stacking that much is a damn big job. I also have a lot stored and while it's a huge job, having done it all by myself from beginning to end, it certainly gives one a feeling of accomplishment and a bit more certainly in one's future because no matter what comes, Hell or Biden economics, the family and you will be warm. Well done!

I heat the house with natural gas, but if the power goes out, I have emergency propane heaters for the house, my sisters' houses, and a rental house. The barn is insulated with a wood heater and enough firewood to last a couple of months, plus two of the houses have woodburning fireplaces. We have 2–250-gallon propane tanks, and can refill #20 propane tanks from those for use with smaller propane heaters. So, come ice or snow, we are ready! For really prolonged periods without electrical power, I could break-out the generators and power up the gas furnaces. As I keep telling people, "I got a plan for this"!

WB, I'd like to see your setup on how you did the "can refill #20 propane tanks from those for use" if you get the chance for photos and detailed explanation. I'd liked that option to be able to power my backup generator or etc. How do you know you got the right amount into #20 bottle, weight or ? Anyway, this is a very good idea and gives a person options...the more options, the better.

Yeah, these stacks are under tarps now as it's going to rain this afternoon and over night.
I've got more firewood in the sheds, in the basement and on the front porch as well.
My doc laughs at me and says my wood stacking adventures is a more through stress test than I'd get doing the stair stepper test in the hospital.
6 hrs straight of cardio a few days in a row and not keeling over .. yeah, that's a passing grade for this year.
