When it breaks loose there it breaks loose BIG. Frequent small quake activity is what you want to keep that pressure relieved.

unfortunately it doesn't work that way - more likely a sign of things to come - that's why they track every little shiver in CA

A 2 here is hardly news worthy, however strings of quakes are a significant concern.
Double check your preps, especially water.
A quake I was in disrupted our well.

Not sure I'd even FEEL a 2.8 magnitude quake! Then again, having spent years in various spots around the Pacific's "ring of fire" (California, Guam and Adak Island, Alaska), and having lived thru 4 magnitude 7+ quakes, the little ones aren't really that noticeable.

Here, in the Buffalo region, they had a quake that I think they said was a 4? Didn't feel it! ;)

worse earthquake in US history was in this same region - first time ever I've seen 3 in a few days - haven't seen any report of anything even close .....

It's fine, just fine. There's no reason for the Midwest to move to Texas now. That would be silly.

Tell us more. Earthquakes and wells have a weird relationship.

I was going to attempt to make a funny on how maybe the US is about to divide into two and we'll finally get our red and blue. But, given how serious y'all are about this, I didn't think it would be appropriate. :sneaky:

I find a little disaster humor quite appropriate! Time enough for serious once the shaking and rolling gets going.

Was in one in Mt.Vernon (IL) about 8/9 years ago. Shook the crap out of everything in the house. Not any real damage to anything but I remember one of my daughters trying to get down the upstairs hall and she was bouncing back and forth from one wall to the other! Also I remember this sound like a freight train trying to come through the bedroom wall. I didn't know they made any noise. I don't know what number it was, scale wise.

I believe that one was 3.4 that was centered in the Fairfield area. Just look at us as being the gooey filling between the New Madrid Seismic Zone and the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone. We have had 129 1.5s or greater in the last 365 days. And a lot more that are less than 1.5. A decent article on the subject. If you know a coal mine seismologist ask him/her how many hundreds of quakes we have here every year :) Sadly the entire midwest is very unprepared for then the next 7.5-7.7 hits. Those two that hit in the 1800s would = total carnage today. There is a reason FEMA stores those millions of body bags in depots all along the New Madrid Zone ;)

major earthquake thru the Madrid Fault area would be bad enough at any time - but going into fall/winter and the pipelines busted up for hundreds of miles would be a disaster on disaster ....

on top is the disaster of having it occur with Biden in the WH - never can trust what that crazy SOB bunch would do - look at Hawaii - barely cares if the locals ever get taken care of - another Obammy picking & choosing what gets some attention .....

Don't know as we have earthquakes down here? if we did it would probably feel like an 18 wheeler driving past and hitting every pothole at 75mph.

Dallas had a few several years ago. I was a work for a 3.4. The ceiling tiles all squeaked and my office chair rolled away from my desk and back by itself.

Cali just took a 5.1 right in the middle of the Typhoon! Not that a 5.1 is all that bad, but combined with the storm, that's not good!
It's super Smokey here, a combo of all the wild fires here and in Canada and no wind to blow it out, so were in a soup bowl of smoke till at least late monday night!

Here in Charleston SC we have a deep fault line runs through Summerville occasionally we will get a slight shake nothing serious. 1886 quake killed 60 people OIP.GDjTAtus_BldjNNYH0xxGQHaFK.

I'm not really sure if earthquakes are a threat to me. A drilling rig told me it was 280' of gravel between my 8' of topsoil and bedrock
