Is this feasible?

I was looking at turbine stuff on Alibaba and they had rather powerful wind turbines(5000 watts) that bolted down on a bench. I thought about if a small electric motor could power such a thing and the power needed would be less than what is produced. About 1500 RPM for a few hours each day at peak sun. My electronics knowledge has its limits, so that's why I'm mentioning it here.
The turbines I could power with methane were really large and expensive. It was funny seeing them for sale though. so many interesting things on Alibaba.

    .. .. Alibaba/aliexpress has a yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge amount uv cheap trash .. .. :(

.. .. turbines is dangerous .. .. dey can do a lot uv damage when dey break .. .. talkin serious injury or death .. ..

    .. .. 5,000 watts on a bench? .. .. dat dont sound right .. .. yer gonna be lucky ta git 1/10th uv dat [ 500W or less ] .. ..

    .. .. @Cruisin Sloth is right post a linky .. ..

energy in equals energy out minus losses. Can't change this. Yet.

If so, you would have a perpetual motion machine which is impossible. If it was, all the world's energy problems would be solved.

    true dat

solar is bttr [ ya need gud sun tho ]

a wind turbine aint gonna produce nuffin if da wind aint blowin at da right speed day in day out

Of course, solar isn’t an answer everywhere. North of the 45th parallel in general isn’t great.

If a turbine can put out 5kw at 1400 rpm why would it be so hard to believe a small electric motor could spin a turbine to produce power? Alibaba is like looking at an old Sears catalog.

Therre are people that do, and people that talk.
I'd say about 50% are doers.
    Saying that to say this,
How important is it to you.
This is where one makes the decision to invest in something meaningful and sees it through.
If you have the skills to fabricate then there are plenty of you tube videos on this subject, however.
If you haven't the means/knowledge to fabricate buying new is your best bet.
I do both seeing I don't know everything, nor do I have the equipment necessary to fabricate any more.
Motors do not necessarily generate power; it depends on the field winding and the armature.
    1. you need enough wind to justify the investment. a 5 mile an hour breeze is not enough, and a steady breeze is preferred.
hurricane force winds tend to destroy most wind machines.
Most areas need to have the machine elevated, this you can find out by flying a kite, a small one preferably, something you can afford to lose.
Dasy type mills though most efficient are the most vulnerable. (These rotate horizontally and hunt for the wind direction)
Darious rotors will tolerate greater wind forces but have a high wind demand to start. (These rotate vertically)
Another issue is getting a permit to have one, some areas don't allow them due to the list of fears that people have, ignorant of the latest technology. any time you put a tower i the ground they will assess you for it, and your insurance company want to know as well. I built my rig on my 20' shop trailer weighing several ton, which also had my battery bank and solar panels.
Wind loads tend to put a lot of stress on what they are attached to. Like a breaker bar on a strong bolt the greater the load the longer the bar. too much force will do a lot of damage on a little bolt. I had a 600-watt mill, but It did not have enough wind to pay for itself, but I had been planning to move.
The thing about small windmills is that when it is stormy and overcast then in theory it takes over for the solar. but that can be a fantasy, it isn't always windy when it is overcast. By the way a wind speed indictor is a good investment when you're seeking something in this direction.

Sir BT @BTPost is correct [chopper] [chopper]

@Big Ron da laws uv Thermodynamics state ya cannot git more energy outta da system than ya put in it

if ya has a wind turbine yer energy output is nuffin if da wind aint blowin

if da wind is blowin yer gonna git energy in from da wind [ wind speed affects dat ] minus losses, da losses can be yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge if da system aint efficient or da quipment is made in chin_

yer gonna lose energy every step uv da way, ya can't git anywhere close ta 100% dat is impossible

besides ali wutever is always lyin bigly about da ratings n efficiency uv da stuff dey sell

dey claim 5,000 W yer probably gonna git less dan 500W on a gud day if everythin werks right, n dat ain gonna happen

if ya drive a wind turbine wid a lectric motor yer gonna lose energy bigly, it aint sustainable, economical or practical [ if dat is wut ya was gettin at ]

hydro, nukular, gas turbines [ like General Lectric ], solar, gas or diesel generators is bttr [ dey require fuel or a gud source uv energy ta werk ] yer own land may have natural gas or oil if yer in da right area

da old Sears stuff n things was decent quality, da stuff from ali [ chin_ ] sure aint

I have solar panels and wind turbines and all the stuff needed for a decent sized system. I've been a great gatherer of stuff. My other idea was to spin a turbine with a motor of some sort, methane produced here was my first thought, if I had the materials, running on alcohol for brief periods might work. I also wondered about running diesel engines on various fuels. we used to have a snow plow nearby that had an any fuel kind of engine. (old M-series military truck) just thinking about a future where I try to be more self sufficient. kind of a search for a self-powered generator. There is plenty of wind and sun here. Most people have really unrealistic ideas about their homes and their power usage. I like having redundant systems in case of a failure. sorry to ramble.

Took my daughter's 8th grade science class to an eco lab out on an island in the Cheseapeake Bay many moons ago. (She's a Navy 04 helo pilot now). Their science and math teachers also went. Both were probably the top 2 teachers my kids ever had.

Place where they stayed was set up to minimize ecological impact. Had a composting toilet that was basically like a lighthouse...you walked up 3-4 stories and were surrounded by glass from the waist up, 360 degree view. Waste dropped the 3-4 stories down into the composting pit.

To do dishes, you had to have one kid riding the bike generator, another operating the water heater/pump set up. Basically an instant hot water set up, but definitely taught the kids that nothing in life is free. My daughter says it was one of her favorite memories growing up. She now has a couple of kids of her own.

If you have methane why try to run a fuel hog turbine?
Plenty generators out there that can run on methane.
