I had one of those. Well, sorta. Mine didn't have a plastic handle. Back about 1961.

 

Mine was probably made in 1961 as well. This is how they looked from 1957-1963. Wood handle and wood base.



The good thing about the old mechanical toys... they were tough! Modern noise electronic making toys just need one dunk in the bathtub and they're quiet. The recorder might be a little bit of a challenge. Oops, it got under the rocking chair, or got caught inside the recliner mechanism. What a shame.
