My choice would also be a Buck 110. If I could sneak another one along, it would be a Victorinox Compact. Those two would take care of almost anything that came along.
Excellent choices, altho I'd have to work on the kukri grip. One of my khuks would definitely make the cut but the choice would be difficult!
A genuine khukri handle uses a cement made from local minerals to glue the handle to the blade. The tang, at least on mine is fairly thin and tapers making adhesion even worse. The handle on mine is steel that has a relief cut and it's held in place with electrical tape. Amazingly it holds fast even through some hard use. I want to get the tang improved permanently with someone who has the skill to do so without ruining the blade and then a handle that fits my hand a bit better than the traditional one.
I can highly recommend a MasterBladeSmith that replaced the handle on my Kukuri… Adam DesRosiers does very Excellent Work, if you give him the time, as he is usually very busy… Web Presents is Alaska Blades…
I have a wall full of khuks and bowies out the wazzoo- and the final "Out The Door" would be hard to choose... altho- I have a DehraDun khuk made for British Indian forces in ww2... simple, probably factory made as opposed to Nepalese kama-made (tho I have some of those too).. The DehraDun has served me well for years, well put together.. had to make a saddle-leather sheath for it as I dropped a tree on the original goatskin-covered wood.. it as it lay on a stump,... it takes and holds an edge well enuff, nothing fancy for sure but trusty... and the grip is ok, but thinking about some kind of tape wrap to improve the grip... My most used knife these days is a Cold Steel Kobun, very useful. Trying to figure out how to hang it on the sheath of one of my large khuks or bowies..
I have one repro Kukri, and like it a lot. Thick and strong, but also very sharp, holds a good edge. It'll be my melee weapon of choice when the Zombies rise.
My new one is the Black handle , brown is from 1965 or so . Chef knives . Hanzo's tools im sure ! Sloth
I have the ER Glauca B1. Always a good choice. I own the original one with no emblem or serrations. I payed ~$350
I'm so bummed I lost my Buck 110 years ago. It was my first large folding knife I bought as a teenager.
I only have simple knives in the kitchen. I miss my butcher knife that my mom took a liking to years ago.
I guess if SHTF while I'm at home, then I have tons to choose from to use. If I am out and about when it happens, then I am stuck with what's on my person. Perhaps what I have in the truck if I am close enough to it.
Hunting or just camping, I wear my Western Bowie. Out and about in town I just wear my cheap pocket knife because it is expendable.
It's great that someone knows about these, Kudos to you. I made this pair the other day.... A upgrade would be a Hacksaw Knife out of my PSK, Now to the Knife, I got caught up in the "Knife" Arms Race for a few years, but I committed to cross traing some time back, if it can take a edge, I will train with it. However, if I had the chance to grab one Knife to walk out into the unknown... One of the twins is going to get the call, pictures from some training this year. Their not for everybody, but they work for me...
