WTH? Why are ammo prices still so high?

Does anyone have any knowledge why the hell ammo prices are still so damn high?

I went to purchase a new firearm (Tavor X95), one that I have given a lot of thought and research and even sold my favorite AR to obtain approval from the Finance Ministry for the purchase. I had green lights across the board, everything was a "Go" then I thought, "I'll pick up a thousand rounds (5.56) so I am ready for new rifle" as I didn't want to touch my ammo stash, which is around 8000 rounds of M193 and a couple thousand of M855. The cheapest I could find, on the internet was 40 cents a round, not including shipping! WTH?

Anyway, I was shocked as thought things were back to normal. Most of my ammo was purchased at a maximum of 30 cents a round and I expected to see something at least close to that but no...nowhere close. So, I am extremely pissed as no sense in purchasing a new rifle if ammo is too expensive to shoot, especially when just shooting holes in paper. Yeah, I could shoot my stores/preps but...I don't like that idea give the daily insanity in which we live.

What the hell is going on? Anyone got any information or even an idea why ammo hasn't come down? Is it still a supply and demand thing and will remain this way until Biden leaves office (hopefully on a rail, tarred and feathered)? What do you think? Ideas/Info?

Everything has gone up. Inflation is here to stay for a while.
Supply has gone up but so have the costs to the manufacturer and then nicely passed on to consumers.
While it's available on the shelves now .. you gotta pay for the higher input costs all through the supply chain (raw materials, packaging, shipping and labor)

new normal my grocery bill has gone up 50 percent in the past year and a half.

It's better here, only slightly though! I was told it's still a supply/demand issue, especially with Pedo Joes recent arming of all those shiny new IRS agents, plus all the other federals that are being weaponized against us! Hell, my fav manufacture is STILL back logged in production orders to fill, (including me) but he is able to source stuff better then most of the others! I have 2000 rounds on order from him, the super awesome M-262, and I just got an email saying my shipment will be shipping this week. I did get 2000 rounds of the super awesome 10 mm order, the really powerful 220 grain soft points to go along with both the 180 and 200 I got from him back in 2019 just as the koof was starting up!

The high prices are BS, Hold off a bit more until prices come down, The only thing I saw today worth buying was CCI 22 std. velocity at around 4.50 a box or so at W.World 1100 fps we all know what that's for ...lol

It’s my belief we’ll never see it at .25-.30 a round again for .223/5.56. It would require DEFLATION for prices to go down, and that’s not gonna happen.
    I hope I’m wrong.

Listening to you guys, I am beginning to think it is both, inflation and supply and demand caused by the whackos in office. Thinking about it, both issues are caused by the whackos in office! LOL!...so, doubtful we'll see any relief soon. So, either I bite the bullet (pun intended) and pay these prices and hope for better times in 1 or 2 years...or go without.... I guess I will bite because I miss shooting.

The only reason for prices to go down would be because of a reduction in demand, or a huge increase in supply! Both of which would result in less production, a reduction in options and/or fewer manufactures... remember what happened with AR-15 rifles a few years back?

Word on the street is gun and ammo sales have stalled and inventory is backing up enough to hit distributors.

Prices aren't going to come down simply because you or I want it to, if that were the case gas, food, clothing, etc., etc. would all be at the same price that they were 50 years ago!

This. Remember hearing parents tell about going to the movies for a dime and a candy bar for a nickel?

I hear you on the prices. You might not have what you want, but you better have what you need. I feel the time is coming soon when it's going to get real.

Hell I remember going to ALDI's and filling a Cart up for $30 bucks same Cart today is about $150+ If inflation matched income increases that Same Cart would be around $90-$100 today. We have been losing ground for a long time, we have just lost so much ground in recent years that it is PAINFULLY obvious now.

I would imagine that we're sending a lot of manufactured inventory to Ukraine, which may be contributing to supply and demand issues.

Wage increases over the past couple of years aren't going to be reduced.
I don't see labor costs coming down.
regulations are increasing the costs of compliance or making it darn near impossible to abide by the rules and driving businesses overseas.
transportation (cost and lack of resources) are added into the equation.
dollar losing purchasing power basically daily.
    Yep, I don't think I'll be getting sub 2 cent 22lr like i did when i was a kid.

my new mantra is. If I need it, and it's available, I buy it now as it's going to be unobtainium due to supply/price later. Granted I will try to get the best price available but I'm still going to get it now.

I'd add one thing, VT. Wages on the low end are increasing like never before, but wages at the top end are not. Most people that I know in salaried/professional positions haven't seen a dime in increases since the covid scare.

Not sure why we're still members, @Bandit99. All we do is give them hundreds of millions of dollars a year so that they can work against the best interests of our country.

I've worked with them numerous times overseas and they are useless...and that's putting it mildly. Frankly, there is so much corruption they're hopeless.
