I climbed into the tree back in September 2016 and have been a regular visitor ever since . Sometimes I just lurk and sometimes I contribute. But not many days that I don't pop in. Every visit I learn something and usually find some humor and entertainment. I have made some friends along the way and generally enjoy the banter. I was on a lot of the prepper/survivalist type sites even saw some of you on those other sites and forums. I believe it was Brokor that mentioned Survival Monkey on one of them that brought me here. Every other site and forum always annoyed me as they are mostly populated by full blown Idiots, or the Garden Variety prepper super survivalist that always seems to a cob stuck sideways in their bung. The Monkey as I call this place is a wholly different environment with only a handful of usually passing through idiots and a few with the Cob in the Bung issue Most here seem to understand things can be taken seriously but still be taken in stride with some humor and levity. We have a good community here with a lot of folks that actually live and know what they speak of. We don't have many if any pretend super soldier Rambo types constantly talking about shit that just never happened. We don't have the I AM A EXPERT because I watched some youtube videos and a read a book and never actually really ever done anything types. We don't have to sift through layers of troll and scam post to find real and accurate topics and info. And for the most part everyone even in disagreement are civil with each other and there is not a lot of useless drama here, but occasionally a little to spice things up a little. So just a little Thank You to the Founding Members, the staff and the Monkey Community as a whole for creating and keeping this tree alive and well.
I got a similar start here in 2015. Pretty diverse group. I pop in most every day. Rarely say much but have learned a lot from people like you.
Amen, Brother. This place is like a peaceful pool where I can hang out and not suffer PC, fools, rabid polyticks or just plain loons. The mods are mellow and I'm never afraid to 'share' my opinion or something I've learned. Folks are solid and the snark has its own thread set, which is nice. Had to look. I joined up here Nov, 2011. I keep coming back for a reason....
This is the ONLY forum I am on. Why? Because everything I want or need is basically here, that's it in a nutshell. Sometimes all I want is straight forward advice, sometimes it is just others experience, and sometimes just an opinion or recommendation. I think what makes this site different from all the rest is the 'adult attitude'...let me state that in another manner, this site is composed of adults, who speak, act and, for the most part, think like logical adults, not emotional half-witted children, flying off the handle with each verb/noun or, dare I say, pronoun. Most here have good common sense and respect other's opinion whether they agree with it or not...just like Mom taught us. Yeah, I like it here, check-in daily, read every new post, whether it interests me or not, sometimes add my thoughts, sometimes not and must admit I truly enjoy everyone's company here and look forward to whatever they have to say. EDIT: I do believe we should take a vote to change KK photo as the damn thing is still giving me nightmares!
I like it here, it's pretty mellow and the members are mostly chill, it's a great place to learn and contribute, and very low drama! I only hang here and NWFA, so my forum experience is pretty limited. Been here since 2016 it seems, my good Buddies @GOG, @Witach and @CavemanJim invited me in to have a look around, and I have been here ever since!
I'm still a short timer I'm not a fan of the political stuff as there is just to much decent in this country when we should be more Pro USA and not Party Russia is still and always will be our enemy in my lifetime barring Putin getting the Moscow 9mm flu I can always count on the Monkey for good true info on a plethora of topics Still beats the Sh*t out of the other sites online So raise a glass and here's to the Monkey
Hey KK, We enjoy your posts and the skin on your back is thick enough to joke with, I must say for the amount of hours in a day and all the projects you have up and running is extremely impressive! Stick around and we have prayers and thoughts for the misses as always !
I can't rebute anything those before me said . It's a nice place here ,, plenty of good honest people, and everyone is eager to help with whatever help is needed . Couldn't ask for a better bunch . Sometimes, what's in my head ,, doesn't come out the same way in print ,,, sometimes it even confuses me ,,, ,,, @bandit ,,, be glad KK's pic is there ,,, mine would have ya cowering in the closet. , Thank you all for allowing me to visit with you all ,, and for putting up with me. And to them newbies here ,,, when the folks tell you to grab a branch and hang out a while ,,, grab one a little higher up ,, monkeys ain't real particular where they decide to take a crap .
I love seeing all these posts. As a founding member I've been here from before we ever went public in 2005. The amount if time and work we put into creating this place seems to have really paid off. I'm very proud to see us still going strong 18 years later. We've had some ups and downs but we have always tried to make this a place welcoming to all. In the beginning with the original 12 of us we called it our campfire. And that's what we have always tried to accomplish A group of people sitting around a campfire exchanging ideas and stories. Glad you all have found us and have stuck around.
TG that project list is getting shorter every week. I finished up the Rafters and joist today. Concrete end of next week and then life and work get a whole lot easier! I try to post things I am doing here, the KK FB page and the Youtube Channel and hopefully give folks ideas to put their own personal spin on it. I look at it this way the more people that are at least well prepared, sheltered, fed, watered and are using their energy productively to support themselves if/when things go totally sideways and FUBAR The less 2 legged roaming animals to wander in that might need to be put down. If my post help make a spark of interest or motivation in even 1 or just handful of folks to have a easier time in major national malfunctions or localized mini shtf events I can only see that as a good thing. You guys did a great job and created something special unlike anything else out there!
Amen, Brother , & Sisters! Also to all the Members ,all above post ,,I agree and endorse . KK looks fine . @SB21 your avatar is fine , i don't do cowering in the closet. Im pretty up front . Sloth Missing in post is runswithdogs Ganado
Well, I was going to start a new thread but I am technically challenged and can't remember how! I haven't been on in a week or two, had my knee replaced on 6/21 so a bit down and out for a while but I really enjoy this site and the knowledge you all have to share! Happy FRIDAY!!
I agree, Sloth! Was looking thru old threads last night, and wondered about a lot of people who have passed thru. Some stayed for quite a while, some for just a short time.
I wonder where some went Motomom comes to mind. Never want to ask because too often I don't like the answer. Overall it does not seem like we are the youngest online community
I missed the first 5 years of the Monkey Tree, because the Internet connections, out to the Alaskan Bush, were way to expensive for us simple folks to afford.. Once that issue was cured, and I ran across this place it became a daily fixture, of my morning Due Diligence Reading.. Then I got up the courage to actually post a bit of content to the Communication forum, because that is where much of my Expertise lies…. That was a very scary proposition for me, because there were more Monkeys checking in, here, every day, then I would see, and interact with, in the 8 months of Winter, and who lived within 100 Square miles of us.. Many of the Founding Monkeys, have moved on, to other pursuits, and or, past on to the Great Monkey Tree in the Sky, but I have certainly found a home, here in this tree… Being asked to join the Staff, as the first non-Founder Moderator, was the next most scary thing for me to take on..I think Melbo did that more to help with the Old Forum Software, than anything else, as at that time I was was Chief Moderator, of another large World-wide Forum Site, that ran the same Site Software… I surely miss some of the Founders who have passed on, as they became good friends, and colleagues,… Ghrit, Right Hand, CRC, are just a few that come to mind.. It is a bit nostalgic, to think back, and remember those early days, hang’en out here in the Monkey Tree.. Today, it is a bit like walking down a very long Railroad Tunnel, and seeing the front light of the locomotive, a far off, but not hearing any sounds because it is still to far away… You know the train is coming, and there is no place to run and hide from it, and you can not measure that distance, but you knew there was the possibility of that when you started down the tracks.. Now it is a FACT that your time is finite, so you make every minute count…. I have made a lifetime of good friends, here, most of who I have never met, or even Communicated with, by Voice, but have come to know and respect, and I value those Friendships, as much or more than those very few Friends who I have dealt with face to face… So, what I wish for, these days is “ Long Live the Monkey Tree, and may this place always go forward, in the way it has always been..” There isn’t any other Site, on the Internet like it, and likely there never will be…
I've only been here since 2017. I leave the internet from time to time but the Monkey is always last to go and first to come back to. I started on ZS, lots of great folks there but trolls abound, dogpiling anyone new or not following the personal attitudes of the trolls. I handled that poorly personally and caught myself planning a trip to commit justice on an internet personality. Where I grew up, the are things one person doesn't say to another without violence. Instant crippling violence. I realized perhaps I was projecting morals on immoral, irresponsible, oblivious people. This place was recommended, I never looked back.
I came and went away came back again, this time to stay I learn, share, and sometimes pray I try to visit every day We all seem to share some common bonds Bruce's radios to Kraps big ponds Some moved on and that's bad Some passed, making me sad Good friends having a good time Glad you all are friends of mine
