This country used to lead the world in education --education in math, real sciences (chemistry, physics, engineering) now we are leading the world in women's studies, criminal justice (should be victim justice) transgender studies garbage studies that are meaning less while the rest of the world ---China passes us by. There was a time when high schools had marksmanship programs, ROT. The leftist have deemed these programs racist not PC. We teach our kids to be afraid of firearms while the Chicoms teach their kids how to take a glock apart and put it together. our kids draw a picture of a gun and their expelled. We are so doomed

One of the BIGGEST issues in our schools came from the Klinton "No Kid Left Behind" bullshit, along with Regan's Push to compare American Kids with Asian Kids! FACT, America shouldn't and doesn't compete with ANY nation in ANY way what so ever, we do things our own way, and it works very well for us! For Americans to try and compare us to any other nation is flat stupid! Saying our kids are less smart then others is flat wrong, don't forget, we landed on the moon FIRST, and many other things, There is AMERICA,, and the rest of the world for a very good reason! This WOKE bullshit absolutely MUST stop, and RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

America certainly does things in their own way, however whether it actually works very well, and for whom, is a matter of conjecture, and indeed in some areas, a matter of contention...Betsy De Vos was an inspired choice by a dumbass POTUS who somehow managed with ease to undermine the public education system in the USA in their 4 years of office....the banning of the 'holy' bible in some states (Utah notably) by using the very same conservative anti LGBTQIA+ legislation to remove smutty, ancient erotica from school library shelves gives me some hope that the nation won't completely go down the tubes of uber radical conservative indoctrination.

Yes, America landed on the Moon, but it has to be acknowledged that significant contributions to that achievement came from European educated emigres to America.(Werhner Von Braun and others come to mind), using knowledge gained from the Nazi V1 and V2 rocket programs. America had few moral scruples in using the knowledge gained by European educated tools of the Nazis in the USA's competition with the Russian commie science community to get to the moon, and develop ever more lethal nuclear weapon platforms...MAD!.

The Russians had their Nazi scientists and hardware to jumpstart their own space and military programs! As I remember it the USA was playing catch-up trying to match the Russian advances in rocketry. We just had the better scientists and more resources to throw at the problem! The USA may have few moral scruples, but the Russians had none!

 

FACT, America should and does compete with EVERY nation in EVERY way. we do things our way and it isn't working very well for us! For Americans (or anyone else) to try and compare us to any other nation is flat stupid, because our education system is not working! I wasn't barracking for the Soviets...both the Russkis and the Yankees scrambled to grab the available rocketry scientific and engineering talent left after the downfall of the Nazi regime...the point that I was making was that these scientific 'ring-ins' had continental post graduate training and experience that simply didn't exist to the same extent in the USA or Russia. Much of the vaunted American achievements in the space race were built on the shoulders of emigres in the 1940's, 50's and early 60's who were not themselves products of the American public education system.

 

Our kids are just as smart as any other kid in the world BUT our government run schools and parents have failed in educating them pushing PC and the Woke agenda. Look at our universities and who is in the hard sciences Chinese students, Indian students in IT. A lot has changed since we landed a man on the moon 50 years ago. IMO we Americans have become fat and lazy with the illusion we will always have an abundance of everything with no effort. If we don't change our ways the day of reckoning is around the corner.

The key here is "moral scruples...the Russians had none." To be fair, most, if not all the Nazis scientists were trying to get to the West, making it damn easier to bring them over and we did, the majority of them. Operation Paperclip was very successful and for good reasons. The Soviets, with their brutal methods, and certainly the concept giving their armies a free-hand to rape, murder, and pillage a city for days - well - let's just say it didn't help their popularity. Nevertheless, the communists were so deeply embedded throughout the USA and especially the FDR administration that they were receiving all technology advances as soon as the West develop it. There is a lot of new information out now about the Manhattan Project (nuclear bomb project) that shows even there were at least 6 commie high-level scientists sending info back to Stalin in almost real time...and IIRC they didn't catch them all either, at least one got away

 

Werhner Von Braun is a hero here in Alabama. He and others like him created the Space Program and the Space Program created the modern society that we live in today!

They left for their own safety, and because Germany was in ruins, and they were unlikely to find employment! Although, the USA and Soviet Union got most of them, a number found sanctuary elsewhere. Argentina was home to a surprising (or maybe not) number of former Luftwaffe jet pilots, engineers and designers. Spain, under Franco, welcomed thousands of scientists, engineers, designers and technicians that were employed by CETME, which was Spain's Skunk Works. The designers of the Sturmgewehr 44 were employed by CETME and soon produced an assault rifle for the Spanish military called the Cetme (aka the G-3 in Germany).

Now, that I did not know! Learn something new every day... I did know that Franco got a lot of Nazis, I think the Catholic church was involved moving a lot of them there if I remember correctly, but didn't know about Stg 44 designers...

 

Yup, they were all former Mauser Works employees, who fled to Spain near the wars end, and they took with them most of the designs and works they had come up with, and that's how CETME came to be!

 

Another good reason to homeschool. Our kids are smart and can hold their own with anyone. We had dinner with an elderly multimillionaire businessman about a decade or so ago when my oldest was around 11. Somehow, she ended up sitting next to him. After dinner, he pulled me aside and told me how impressed he was. Said she was holding her own in conversation with him and even arguing her points. They talked about business, politics and statistics. What a weird dinner topic conversation. I told her afterwards and let her know how proud I was. She is now in her early 20's. Graduated valedictorian from college in her teens and is already in the top 5% of earners in the country.

My younger daughter is in her teens and did not want to go to college. I am perfectly fine with her not going into a woke mill. She works three jobs and does jiujitsu 5-6 times a week. Pretty balanced. Two of the jobs are related (architectural and drafting) and the third is one she committed to to help our one of her schools. She teaches tiny tots judo.

I think homeschooling works.

 

I am a true believer that university is NOT for everyone. Furthermore, it is a damn waste of money unless the individual's mindset is correct. I went into the military because I did not have the money to finish university, simple as that. What I found when I picked it up and finished a few years later, as an adult, is I wiped the floor with the younger kids that had no break in school and I did this while working full time. I was there to learn. They were there because they didn't know what else to do or they were told to be there but the majority sure as hell didn't want to be there.

Also, in North Idaho, there is a huge amount of home schooling and I does indeed work, no doubt in my itty bitty mind. It is far better than any public school. In fact, I would say, that the day of Public schools are finished, they're over, and if you want a decent education for your children then either home school or private school.
