I always try to like everybody's Red X posts. It happens. Thanks for spotting them. There were a couple more, but I caught them. Probably have to restart my machine.

 

and Aldi is the proof. Simply putting a little skin in the game, and you never see their carts in the parking lot, because there are quarters tied up inside them. Just a simple quarter, that most people wouldn't bend over to pick up from the sidewalk, is enough to prove the concept. Proof that welfare is evil.

Let me tell you how bad it would be if I can't upload pictures.

Imagine the worst Dad joke you've ever heard. Then imagine stuff like that all day and night with no end.

 

I'm not just having trouble posting stuff from the internet that I copied. I thought maybe it was some of the goofy sites I visit preventing me from sharing things.

I can't even post pictures I took.

So you have to imagine a beautifully luminescent mesh mantle above a blue flame on a 1910 Home Supply Company Beacon side-draft mantle lamp.

I can't find written instructions for this lamp, which used a family's older wick lamp font to give them a more modern lighting experience.

If they did have instructions it would probably read like Coleman instructions from 1938 for their Kero-Lite 160 mantle lamp There were no cautions about keeping it out of the reach of children or not drinking the fuel. One specific instruction gave the fix for a wick that was turned up too far, causing black spots to appear on the mantle. "Turn the wick down until black spots disappear."

Keep in mind that this was ground breaking technology at the time, and it was sold door to door or at the local hardware store.

If you thought Dad jokes were bad, let's talk endlessly about lighting the home with kerosene and heating with pressurized gasoline.

Fun. Fun, Fun watching people with cellular phones and ear buds try to cook a meal on a gas pressure appliance and trim a wick for the first time.

It's a test of our ability to entertain ourselves without visual images of cut & paste thoughts. It's also a big part of the reason I post so much funny stuff. As long as we can access it, it's entertaining. Even if we start on page 1 and start scrolling through. For people addicted to scrolling, that would provide some relief in a stressful situation.

Without pictures we have to actually think. Compose thoughts. Press keys and try to form sentences. Hard work, eh?





Or we can find a way to fix it.

I can whip out a link, but still can't post pictures to threads or albums.

 

Fascinating how such a seemingly small thing can have such a profound impact on the operation of the forum. It's far more than memes. It's hard to teach without pictures, hard to share ideas or to maintain a photo album.
