I'm running 3 days (MWF) and walking the remaining days. Running anywhere from 3-5 miles and walking 5 miles. I'm going to start incorporating some body weight training (push ups, situps, pullups, etc.).
Today is day 10 of 10k steps (well, I'm almost there, I'm at 9,349 and it's 9:00am, yeah, I think I'll hit 10k today LOL).
I'm also doing another 24h fast today. I think today will be hard, I woke up hungry. Drank my coffee and water, did my walk, drank my LMNT and I'm still hungry. Oh well, I'll get some more water. I might take a tablespoon or 2 of coconut oil, shouldn't kick me out of my fast and may ease the hunger pains some.

@Meat I bet that everyone has been there, but it probably feels so good to feel the progress and the fact that you have so much more endurance now. I agree. Dying would be super embarrassing. Lol. The opposite of good.

@kckndrgn Way to go! That sounds like a good blend of running and walking. Those bodyweight and calisthenic exercises are so effective. I've never been able to do an unassisted pull-up. Maybe someday. I think it's time for me to start doing more cardio again. I'm finally getting closer to 6,000 steps a day. I was working in the yard for 3 hours yesterday and that helped me with steps.

I hope that today's fast will go well. It take mental strength to do that, but is also a physical challenge too. Just think, if we were to hire professional trainers or go on a "health retreat" they would charge us premium fees to order us to do less than what we're doing. And you are making these changes on your own. The health benefits and all the money that can be saved in the future by "staying off the operating table" is so motivating for me. You got this!

With my age and health problems, my health goals are essentially to wake up each morning and keep ticking.

@Alanaana , I think in my life I have done 1 unassisted pull up LOL. I have always been overweight and weak. Now that I'm 50 I'm focusing on changing that!
Today's weigh in, down another 3 lbs in the last week. Lets see if that continues with the addition of strength training. I need to update some body measurements (arms, waist, chest, thigh, etc.) I did them in Jan as part of a challenge but never followed up at the end of the month.
Went out this morning and thought "I'm exhausted I'm just gonna walk today." I made it to the end of the driveway (about 50') and said "The hell you are, run you lazy ass!" and run I did. Slower pace for miles 1 & 3 but I did some interval sprints during mile 2, those always kill me.
Well, I'm at 6k steps so far today, hoping I get my 10k in LOL.

@kckndrgn "Run you did!" It never fails to amaze me how clever we can get with the mind tricks and the way that we can talk ourselves out of doing the things that are good for us. Great job in rising above the skeptic! I'm so proud of you for going for a run and doing sprints? Sprints are SO KILLER! And you did all of this after fasting. These are major wins!

I started the "Stay Off of My Operating Table" book yesterday and it is excellent. In fact, it might be the best book on the topic I have come across. I'm about 30% through. Thank you so much for recommending it. It is a perfect follow up to the processed food book I was reading and it makes me feel more thankful than ever that I decided to get healthy. I'm really looking forward to reading his recommendations. I could see this resource saving lives and it's also inspiring because he lost 100 lbs using the techniques that he is going to share.

I have no doubt that you'll be doing unassisted pull-ups! I'm glad you brought up the point about strength training and weight. I put on less than a pound this week and then what looks like 2 lbs in 2 days, but I think it's a combination of water weight, hormones, and the fact that I'm lifting heavy weights. I also started eating more veggies. It all makes a difference and I'm trying not to feel discouraged. I have to remind myself that this isn't a quick fix and shortcuts don't lead to good places.

Keep up the amazing work! You're on fire!!!

What a great weekend. Went camping with my wife (one kid was at camp with the scouts and the other was left home to tend to the dogs). Really enjoyed the relaxing weekend with just my wife. We did manage to walk one of the hiking trails at the state park, 5.8 mile loop, with some pretty good elevation changes. I managed just fine, wasn't too tire at the end, but my wife was totally exhausted.
We enjoyed some chicken cooked over an open fire for dinner.
Still hitting my 10k steps per day goal, in fact I walked 5.65 mi this morning and completed 10k before I started work! 14 days in a row.

Me neck is getting better but it doesn't take much to wear me out especially outside work.
Dumb or hardheaded like I am I've already popped a stitch or two and have been limited to staying inside and keep the grah-doo otta the wound. I'd like to go fishing?

@kckndrgn That sounds like such a fun and romantic getaway with your wife! There are few adventures that can beat camping and I think it's more important than ever to disconnect and get away from walls and screens. Great job on staying active too! I bet that your wife will feel inspired by all of your healthy habits and lifestyle changes!
I'm very inspired by your 10,000 steps! That's such an accomplishment. I have set a goal to get 6,000 steps.
I finished the "Stay off of my operating table" book and it is excellent. Provides really good suggestions that are easy to implement and can save lives. Thanks again for recommending it!

    Happy May Everyone!

I always feel a surge of motivation at the beginning of a new month (as cliche as that sounds :p.) I decided to relax over the weekend. I started going for walks again and my goal is to get 6,000 steps a day.

Here are some things that I'm working on this month:

    • Today I'm starting the "Summer Time Fine" program which is free on YouTube. I'm trying to lose weight and get fit for health reasons, but I would also love to feel good about the way that I look too.
    • I'm going to continue with the healthy eating habits. I started adding more veggies this last week and kefir before bed.
    • I have a 156,000 gallon pond space that got overgrown and I would like to clear all of the grass and weeds out of it then possibly turn it back into a pond or garden space.
    • In April, I was doing more SEO work for my blog, but this month I want to start writing and creating more content. I'm going to set a goal of 1 blog post per week. I think that's manageable. When I started I was publishing a post a day, but I don't want to burn out since it's a hobby.
What are your goals for this month? Hope you are all doing well!

That's amazing! It takes a lot of patience and skill to be a good fisherman. I've done some fly fishing for trout (when I lived in Wyoming) and some shore fishing here, but I still have a lot to learn. It's an artform, I think.

Aloha! Yesterday was workout #1 / 65. It was a total bodyweight workout and it felt good to move. Thankfully, I completed my workout right before another internet outage. Internet outages have been a lot more frequent, lately. When my provider finally answered the phone, they said that they were doing maintenance that would take 6 hours. It was frustrating that they didn't send a message to let people know. This morning, they also didn't tell people that they need to restart their routers for the new software updates to take effect.

I understand that communication can be really challenging, but it is helpful.

Once I got out of bed and after coffee, I had a nice burst of energy and did workout #2 / 65! It felt good to get it done earlier in the day. It was a 30 minute cardio workout.

Also, this is off-topic, but Popeye's chicken opened up on the island and it's nutty how chaotic the parking lot was. I guess people were waiting in line for 1-2 hours. I just wanted to go to the market to get some meat and veggies, but there was a massive line snaked throughout the parking lot.

If it's not a golden goose, I don't want it! LOL

Aloha! Today was leg day and workout #3 / 65. I've switched to late morning workouts and I think they feel a little harder because it's hot during the day versus after the sun goes down.

It was my weigh- in day and it seems like my weightloss has stalled a little, but I have made dietary changes that I think are still healthy: More veggies, 1/2 cup of kefir before bed, a walk in the morning, better sleep at night. I went back and looked at my logs and realized for the better part of a decade I've been 40 lbs heavier . I feel very thankful that I'm turning things around and need to remind myself that big changes like this take time.

I started reading "Metabolical: The Lure and lies of processed food, nutrition, and modern medicine" By Dr. Robert Lustig. It is very good so far and I like how he focuses more on the getting healthy aspect. His rules boil down to 2 points:

    1. Protect your liver.
    2. Feed your gut.
I am also reading "The Primal Blueprint" by Mark Sisson. I appreciate how positive and uplifting he is.

Does anyone know what the difference between Keto and Primal Blueprint is? I noticed that PB allows some fruit and doesn't encourage a lot of excess dairy.

I'm sure that I'll learn more as I read more. This is the first time that I've ever looked into the Primal Blueprint.

Since we are accountability partners, I also want to share that I'm still struggling with getting off of my "social media addiction." I was pretty active on there this last week and it was fun to catch up with friends and family, but I noticed that my time was going down the drain AND I was feeling cravings that I didn't even feel when I wasn't working on my health.

Not to sound paranoid or anything, but I really do think that the social media apps intentional get designed to be addictive and market junk to us. I'm getting cereal and twinkie ads for crying out loud :ROFLMAO: I'm happy to report that that doesn't even sound good to me, but still. I'm eating much healthier, but noticed that I still wasn't feeling satisfied. I don't know how much of that is really physical or is it the constant ads that are making me want things.

It's also not good that I feel like I'm not doing enough because I'm comparing myself.

Here we go again, I deactivated my social media except the one professional account.

Do you ever struggle with these kinds of things?

Hope you are all doing well!

@Alanaana, all social media is addictive and it's designed to be so. How else are they going to sell ad revenue. I don't post a lot to my SM accounts, usually just use it to keep up with friends, family and various groups that have similar interests. I can go weeks without looking at SM and then I can't get enough of reading/watching the happenings of others.
I'm still getting my 10k steps in (only 260 steps to go for today to hit my goal LOL).
    upload_2023-5-4_8-47-40.

over the last 4 weeks my avg daily step count has finally made it over 10k, really hoping I can keep this going until at least May 17th that way I hit my 30 day goal of 10k steps/day. I'm going to need a new pair of shoes pretty soon LOL.
