Hello, just joined the forum and look forward to participating. For most of my life I've lived in the country where I had enough acreage for a garden, compost piles, chickens and a building large enough to store food, water, gas and so forth for several years. Now, in our senior years, my wife and I live in a condo where that approach to survival just isn't possible. We have space to store enough food and water for maybe six months or so. Beyond that, well, we're sol. For a year or so after moving into our condo, we had the mindset that at our age, any SHTF, apocalyptic scenario was unlikely to happen before we were both in the ground pushing up daisies. Lately, however, the news around the world looks ominous to say the least. One option is that we locate a group of like-minded survivors in some rural area where we can bug out to if things get ugly before we die. Meanwhile, life is good as long as the idiots in our government, and other governments, don't do anything stupid until we are gone. Everyone dies. Survival is saying not today. Cheers to all you survivors!
Hi QW! Sounds like you will fit right in here. I've been having that thought lately also about what are we going to do in a few years as workload for country living simply doesn't decrease - ever! For now, I can still handle it but...the day is coming, but it's not today, thank goodness cause don't think I could tolerate living in town ever again... This damn crook of a president has got the country in such a mess that no one can guess at what tomorrow might bring. Welcome!
Welcome to the tree. Perhaps by sharing some of your life experiences may help others to find their way. At my advancing years, that is about all that I have to offer.
Welcome to our Monkey Tree… We know exactly how you feel.. AlaskaChick and I lived the previous 50 years out in bush Alaska, but two years ago we had to move to the city, (Draper, Utah) to be close to Medical Care, and Grandchildren… I will not live to see Christmas, but AlaskaChick has many years left.. We still have our place out in the Alaskan bush, and after the Reaper takes me, likely she will head back up, to live out her days… Getting OLD is a PITA, but I have lived a Good Life, and still enjoy my Monkey Friends…
Welcome to Survivalmonkey! There are many here who have voiced the same issues you are dealing with either living in the inner city in an apartment complex or out in a housing development with restrictions on what they can and cannot do with their property. There are challenges and solutions. Sometimes our inventive membership has the perfect solution.
@Qwertyportne I think what makes you different from the rest living in those apartments/condos is your eyes are open so you see what is coming and you're not expecting the government to provide for you in an emergency, which they never have and never will and, in fact, they can't. All those years of country living has paid you a good dividend in awareness and experience. So, do what you can, how you can, even living in an apartment, right? It might not be perfect, but you do your best and that's all one can do.
Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, getting old ain't for sissies and we can't control everything that comes our way, but mindset is definitely one of the assets to surviving whatever situation you're in. Reminds me of Charles Darwin who said, "It’s not the strongest and smartest who survive but those who best manage change." and Bob Dylan who sang, "The times they are a changin'."
The Muppet Show! Couldn't stop laughing watching that guy toss pancakes up in the air. But yeah, my screen name is a bit odd. "Qwerty" came from the top left row on a keyboard and "yportne" is entropy spelled backwards. I'll send it to the Muppets and see what they can come up with...
Hello and Welcome to the site! There is on prepper that I know of who lives in an apartment and has made videos on how to prepare while in small spaces: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheUrbanPrepper/videos Overall his videos are good and directed to people with little space, but he covers everything.
