My now deceased mother in law was from Finland there is no love for the Russians having had to defeat them in WWII from taking over their country.Down side during WWII Finland sided with Germany for survival. Finland was the only country to pay in full its WWI war debt.
My Aunt was born in Finland, and her father and uncles fought in the Winter War and the Continual War (aka WWll). The Finns made peace with the USSR and had to drive the German forces from the country. Finland is a fascinating country with a rich history and culture that I would love to visit.
Russia has been harassing all the Scandinavian countries - actually violating their borders - Finland has had fighter jet overflights - recently a fighter escort of a bomber that skirted the border >>> NATO - possibly the US independently - released some confidential info that pinpointed threats to these countries - Sweden has not only given NATO membership consideration but also reversed 100s of years of neutrality >>>> there's a definite detailed threat there - nobody wants to be another Ukraine waiting to join NATO and gain protection and then have Putin take advantage ....
Stalin was taking advantage of Hitler's start of WW2 - they actually invaded Poland together and divided the country - Russian committed the worst war crime atrocity against Polish POWs during WW2 - German POWs were treated better .... the attack on Finland was just opportunist - got their azz handed to them - most likely helped give Hitler the idea of eventually attacking Russia ....

Finland cancels Russian Icebreaker construction contracts, offers long term lease/purchase options to the U.S. Coast Guard, including Heavy Icebreaker Otso, and Sweden offers Odin for lease/purchase to the United States! This would be a HUGE Win for the U.S. with the Serious lack of any real icebreakers to carry the flag both north and south, both American Heavies are down and one parentally out, with only medium Breaker Healy operational, but seriously over extended and very old! The Fin Icebreaker Otso would be a Major score for the U.S. as its still pretty new, and the Swede Oden has a very long history with the U.S. conducting Antarctic resupply to McMurdo station after the Polar Sea went tits up and is now basically scrap, along with her aged out sister Polar Star!
There ain't gonna be no war! Russia has its hands full in Ukraine and NATO hasn't got the men, equipment or ammo to fight their way out of a wet paper bag! Besides, NATO has nukes (US, UK and France) as does Russia, and nuclear powers do not fight wars with each other, or so we hope and pray! Putin doesn't want a war with the West! Apparently, the only people that want a wider war is the West! Also, ain't nobody gonna drink from Putin's skull!
Finland still lost 1/3 of their territory. they gained it back in WWll, but lost that plus another third after the war! In the Winter War, Russia gained just enough territory to bury their dead!
Maybe,maybe not, who can really say, and with China practically a loose Canon, things can go kinetic in a heartbeat! Russia may not have a taste for war with the West, but they sure are sniffing around awful close! If Putin goes all in on Ukraine, that could trigger a much bigger conflict, or if he pulls something in Europe, again, that sets off things nobody wants! Never underestimate Russia and their taste for blood, and never give them an inch in exchange for anything!
Since the rest of Europe is NATO that means no war! When Russia wins in Ukraine, there will be decades of rebuilding ahead, and Putin isn't gonna live forever. Too many people have Putin Derangement Syndrome (aka PDS), it's kinda like Trump Derangement Syndrome (aka TDS) in that there is no cure, and you will have it for the rest of your life! Decades from now the ghost of Putin will haunt people's dreams and cause them to wake-up in a cold sweat!
Give their soldiers vodka instead...it increases their capacity to do harm to their own, and renders them less competent to harm their enemies.
Well since we started the whole thing thanks to Victoria Neuland and the CIA in 2014 and then supplied Ukraine with training and weapons to fight Russia as our proxy, but I digress.
